The Yankees traded Bauers to Milwaukee on Friday in exchange for Jace Avina and Brian Sanchez. With a .211 batting average and .663 OPS through four seasons in the majors, Bauers has yet to establish himself as a threat at the plate. However, with no remaining minor-league options, he figures to be firmly in the running for the Brewers' first base job, and his ability to man the corner outfield positions could land him a bench spot if he doesn't start.... Yankees' Jake Bauers: Homers Thursday
Bauers went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Blue Jays. Making his first start in a week, Bauers opened the scoring with a three-run homer off Jose Berrios in the first inning. It's Bauers' 12th home run of the year, matching a career high, though his first since Aug. 5. The 27-year-old outfielder had been struggling at the plate, going just 2-for-38 (.053) over his previous 15 games while retreating to a bench role. Overall, Bauers is batting .199 with a .690 OPS, 30 RBI and 26 runs scored through 259 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Losing out on playing time
Bauers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. Bauers is on the bench for the sixth straight contest and for the fourth straight matchup with a right-handed starting pitcher (Zack Littell). The Yankees appear to have phased Bauers out in order to take a longer look at younger players like Everson Pereira and Oswald Peraza in everyday roles.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Takes seat versus lefty
Bauers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. DJ LeMahieu will start at first base and bat leadoff with left-hander MacKenzie Gore readying to toe the slab for Washington. Everson Pereira is again starting in left field. Bauers has slashed just .143/.222/.268 in 63 plate appearances since the calendar flipped to August and holds an ugly .432 overall OPS this year versus southpaws.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Heads to bench
Bauers is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against Boston. Bauers sits for the second time in three games, with both off days coming against right-handed pitchers. With his 3-for-35 (.086) showing in his last 10 games dragging his season slash line down to .210/.289/.439, he isn't hitting like an everyday player. DJ LeMahieu starts at first base.... Yankees' Jake Bauers: Sitting amid slump
Bauers is out of the lineup Wednesday versus Atlanta. Bauers has been a useful bat for the Yankees this season, especially in the recent absence of Anthony Rizzo (concussion), but the 27-year-old first baseman and corner outfielder is 0-for-12 with eight strikeouts in his last three games. DJ LeMahieu will play first base and bat leadoff Wednesday against the NL East leaders.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Gets breather Monday
Bauers is not in the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta. Bauers started 14 straight games -- including the last 11 at first base after Anthony Rizzo (concussion) landed on the injured list, but he went just 4-for-29 (.138) over the last seven contests, so manager Aaron Boone decided it was time for a day off. DJ LeMahieu will man first base Monday in place of Bauers.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Taking over at first base
Bauers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday in a 3-1 win against the Astros. Bauers broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning, swatting a 410-foot solo shot to right field. It was the second homer in as many days for the slugger, who started at first base for the fourth straight contest. It appears that Bauers will be the primary starter at that position, at least against right-handed hurlers, while Anthony Rizzo (concussion) is on the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Goes deep in loss
Bauers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Astros on Friday. Bauers put the Yankees on the board in the third inning with a solo shot to left field. It was his third homer over his past six games, and he's added two doubles over that span. However, Bauers has also struck out 11 times in 23 plate appearances over those six contests, highlighting his biggest weakness at the plate. The 27-year-old has posted a 32.1 percent strikeout rate over 187 plate appearances on the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Bright spot in loss
Bauers went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Sunday's loss to the Orioles. The Yankees fell behind by seven runs in the first inning and were never really in the game, but Bauers provided a small glimmer of hope with his solo shot in the third inning and run-scoring double in the fourth. The multi-hit performance was Bauers' first since June 18. The 27-year-old has seen his playing time wane in July, though he's been moderately productive when given the opportunity, slashing .250/.323/.571 with two homers, three doubles, five RBI and four runs over 31 plate appearances this month.... Yankees' Jake Bauers: Sits against southpaw
Bauers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets. After coming off the injured list Sunday, Bauers served as the Yankees' leadoff man in his first two games back in action, going 1-for-8 with a run and a walk. With left-hander Jose Quintana on the hill for the Mets on Wednesday, the lefty-hitting Bauers will retreat to the bench and cede the leadoff spot to Isiah Kiner-Falefa.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Reinstated, leading off Sunday
Bauers (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Sunday and is starting in right field and batting leadoff against the Royals. Bauers has been on the shelf since July 6 with a left rotator cuff inflammation, but he's back with the Yankees after a three-game rehab stint with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 27-year-old went 7-for-9 with two doubles and two homers during the assignment and has a .782 OPS for New York this season.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Begins assignment
Bauers (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports. Bauers has been on the injured list since July 7 with left rotator cuff inflammation. It's unclear how long Bauers will spend in Triple-A, but it's possible he returns ahead of the Yankees' series against the Mets on Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Will ramp up activities soon
Bauers (shoulder) is expected to ramp up baseball activities in the next few days, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Bauers injured his left shoulder while diving for a ball against the Orioles on July 5 and was subsequently diagnosed with a bruised rotator cuff. The 27-year-old is eligible to be activated Monday, but given that he hasn't yet resumed baseball activities, it's clear that he'll need to spend more than the minimum on the IL. Billy McKinney and Isiah Kiner-Falefa have been splitting time in left field while Bauers has been on the shelf.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Officially hits injured list
Bauers was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with left rotator cuff inflammation. Bauers sustained the injury on a diving attempt in the outfield during Wednesday's game against the Orioles. There's no word yet on what kind of timetable he's looking at. Franchy Cordero is taking Bauers' spot on the roster.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: IL trip likely
Bauers was diagnosed with a bruised rotator cuff Thursday and is likely to be placed on the injured list, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. Bauers suffered the injury Wednesday after a diving attempt in the field and received a cortisone shot to aid the healing process. No move has officially been made and there is no timeline for his return to the lineup. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is a potential playing-time winner.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Nursing sore shoulder
Bauers is dealing with a sore shoulder after landing hard on a diving attempt in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. Bauers isn't starting Thursday, but it's possible he will be available off the bench. It sounds like the 27-year-old should have a chance to return to the lineup sometime over the weekend.... Yankees' Jake Bauers: Sits versus righty
Bauers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles. The lefty-hitting Bauers had been on the bench for three of the Yankees' previous five games, but each of those absences came against left-handed pitchers. At least for the series opener with Baltimore, Yankees manager Aaron Boone won't be playing matchups, as Bauers and fellow lefty hitter Billy McKinney will take seats against right-hander Tyler Wells. The Yankees will have a pair of righty hitters in Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Giancarlo Stanton replace the two at the corner-outfield spots.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Jake Bauers: Plates lone run for Yankees
Bauers went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a walk in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Cardinals. Bauers drove in the lone run for the Yankees in a game during which they had only three hits. The 27-year-old has notched a hit in four straight games but continues to be mostly limited to hitting against right-handed pitching. Bauers is slashing a meager .227/.313/.477 with 18 extra-base hits, 19 RBI, 17 runs and a 17:43 BB:K in 147 plate appearances and should maintain a role as long as Aaron Judge (toe) and Willie Calhoun (quadriceps) are sidelined.... Yankees' Jake Bauers: Sits again versus lefty
Bauers is not in the lineup Friday versus the Cardinals. It's the third straight absence for Bauers as the Yankees face a string of left-handers. River Ave. Blues@RiverAveBlues2D agoI can't believe this needs to be said but yes, the Yankees should trade for Juan Soto. Signing Cody Bellinger instead of trading for Soto would fit NYY's "pass up the obvious thing for the thing they think makes them look smart" strategy that led them to an 82-80 record in 2023.
