Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Locks down hold
Mantiply pitched a scoreless inning of relief to earn his fourth hold in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Cubs.
Mantiply recorded the final two outs of the seventh inning then retired the first batter in the eighth before letting Ian Kennedy shepherd the lead to closer Mark Melancon. Two of the three batted balls Mantiply allowed had exit velocities over 100 mph, but those were easily handled infield grounders. The left-hander has allowed only one run over 15.2 innings, fanning 13 and walking one.... See More ... See Less
Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Grabs another save
Mantiply didn't allow a baserunner and earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Marlins. He did not record a strikeout.
The 31-year-old picked up his second save of the season Tuesday since closer Mark Melancon (undisclosed) is on the COVID-19 injured list. Ian Kennedy has recorded two saves with Melancon sidelined, but Mantiply is also with the mix as Arizona's fill-in closer. Mantiply is unscored upon through 10 innings this season and has a 0.70 WHIP and 4:1 K:BB.... See More ... See Less
Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Picks up first career save
Mantiply struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Saturday to record his first save of his career in a 5-2 win over the Mets.
With Mark Melancon having pitched Thursday and Friday, the Diamondbacks had to look elsewhere to protect a late lead. Ian Kennedy came out for the eighth inning against the heart of New York's order, and with three lefties due up in the ninth for the Mets, Mantiply got the nod, although he wound up facing two right-handed pinch hitters in Mark Canha and J.D. Davis. Mantiply has had a solid start to the season, posting a 0.00 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 3:1 K:BB through 6.2 innings over seven appearances with a win and two holds in addition to Saturday's save.... The Diamondbacks got effective work from their middle relievers Tuesday. Mantiply was one of four that combined for three scoreless innings before closer Mark Melancon lost the game in the ninth. Mantiply is lumped in with J.B. Wendelken and Noe Ramirez as guys that will work the sixth and seventh innings before Ian Kennedy and Melancon finish games. He's made three scoreless appearances, giving up two hits and a walk with one strikeout over 2.1 innings.... See More ... See Less

Mantiply allowed one run on one hit and struck out one over two-thirds of an inning in Monday's 6-5 loss to Pittsburgh.
The Diamondbacks had a 5-2 lead entering the seventh inning, but the combination of Taylor Clarke and Mantiply let the Pirates tie it up. Mantiply made his first appearance since Aug. 12 after spending time on the COVID-19 injury list. He, like several others in the bullpen, is pitching for a spot on next season's roster.... Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Reinstated from COVID-19 IL
Mantiply (undisclosed) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Monday, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.
Mantiply spent just over a week on the COVID-19 IL due to contact tracing after starting pitcher Merrill Kelly tested positive for the virus. The 30-year-old southpaw has made eight relief appearances for the Diamondbacks, and he's recorded a 3.38 ERA and 2.25 WHIP with four holds in 5.1 innings during that time.... See More ... See Less
Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Returns to COVID-19 IL
The Diamondbacks placed Mantiply on the injured list Sunday without a designation, implying he's been moved to the COVID-19-related IL.
As Steve Gilbert of MLB.com notes, manager Torey Lovullo said following Saturday's win over the Padres that the Diamondbacks were conducting contact tracing after starting pitcher Merrill Kelly tested positive for COVID-19, and Mantiply appears to have been at potential risk of infection. The reliever previously spent time on the COVID-19-related IL earlier this month, but because he was deactivated for less than 10 days, he wasn't believed to have tested positive for the virus. Mantiply has emerged as a key setup reliever for Arizona, posting a 4.66 ERA while gathering seven holds over the past month and a half.... See More ... See Less
Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Reinstated from COVID-19 IL
Mantiply was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list prior to Friday's game against the Padres, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Mantiply has been on the COVID-19 IL since July 30, and given that he's been reinstated in less than 10 days, he could not have tested positive for the virus. The southpaw will take a 4.13 ERA and 21:12 K:BB into Friday's game. Fellow left-hander Ryan Buchter was optioned to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding roster move.... See More ... See Less

Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Gets reassigned
The Diamondbacks reassigned Mantiply to their minor-league camp Sunday.
Mantiply was among Arizona's final five cuts as the team trims down its roster to 26 before Opening Day. The 30-year-old impressed this spring with a 1.23 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 7.1 innings, but he's been equally uninspiring over a similarly small sample of regular-season action in the majors. Over 10 career MLB appearances, Mantiply has posted a 13.50 ERA and 2.63 WHIP across eight innings.... See More ... See Less
Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Remains in organization
The Diamondbacks outrighted Mantiply to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.
Mantiply remains in the organization after going unclaimed off waivers when the Diamondbacks designated him for assignment earlier in the week. The 29-year-old reliever made four appearances for Arizona in 2020, giving up four earned runs in 2.1 innings.... See More ... See Less

Mantiply was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Monday, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.

Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Contract selected Tuesday
Mantiply's contract was selected by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
Mantiply made one appearance for the Yankees in 2019, and he'll now get a chance to serve as a lower-leverage reliever for the Diamondbacks. He's unlikely to play a significant role given his 12.71 ERA over 5.2 major-league innings in past seasons.... See More ... See Less
Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: On 60-man roster
Mantiply will be a part of the Diamondbacks' 60-man summer camp.
While he doesn't have a spot on the 40-man, Mantiply was signed to a minor-league offer in January and will now get a chance to earn a spot in camp. He could always get a shot as a left-handed option out of the bullpen, but considering he was pegged as a Triple-A reliever in January, it could be an uphill battle for the 29-year-old.... Mantiply signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Jan. 5.
The 28-year-old southpaw surfaced in the big leagues for the first time since 2016 this past season, making one relief appearance for the Yankees before being outrighted off the 40-man roster in mid-August. He'll report to Triple-A Reno with his new organization and should prove to be a serviceable arm out of the Aces' bullpen. Over 126.1 career innings at the Triple-A level, Mantiply has compiled a 3.13 ERA and 7.7 K/9.... See More ... See Less
