Colin Walsh: Released by Angels
Walsh was released by the Angels on Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Walsh was competing for a bench spot with the Angels this spring. He failed to win a job, and the team elected to release him rather than keep him in Triple-A as depth. The 28-year-old utility man had an unsuccessful 38-game stint for the Brewers in 2016, hitting just .085. He hit .256/.413/.435 in 102 games split between Double-A and Triple-A in the Diamondbacks' and Astros' systems last year, which ought to be enough to earn him another minor-league contract but isn't enough to make him a threat for much major-league playing time.

Angels' Colin Walsh: Heads to minor-league camp
The Angels reassigned Walsh to minor-league camp Friday.
Walsh was competing for an Opening Day roster spot with a .290 batting average and .934 OPS in 31 at-bats. The switch-hitting 28-year-old should serve as infield depth for the Angels at Triple-A Salt Lake, assuming he remains with the organization.

Angels' Colin Walsh: Competing for roster spot
Walsh hit his third home run of the spring in his lone at-bat as a pinch hitter in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers.
The non-roster invite has gotten off to a hot start this spring (8-for-19 with three homers and eight RBI), putting him in a position to win one of the Angels' final spots on the 25-man roster, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Walsh is a switch hitter who can play every spot in the infield in addition to left field in a pinch. He doesn't provide much in terms of power or speed, but his ability to get on base (21.0 percent walk rate across two minor-league levels in 2017) makes him a candidate to earn a bench role out of camp.

Angels' Colin Walsh: Inks minor-league deal with Angels
Walsh agreed to a minor-league contract with the Angels on Tuesday, according to his personal Twitter account.
Walsh split time with the Diamondbacks and Astros last season, hitting a combined .256/.413/.435 with 12 homers in 102 games between the Double- and Triple-A levels. While the 28-year-old owns a respectable .274/.397/.421 triple-slash across eight minor-league seasons, he struggled mightily in his only major-league stint, hitting just .085/.317/.106 with 22 strikeouts in 63 plate appearances for the Brewers in 2016.

Diamondbacks' Colin Walsh: Joins Diamondbacks on minors deal
Walsh signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Monday.
A Rule 5 pick last year, Walsh struggled in his brief time with the Brewers before being offered back to the Athletics, slashing .085/.317/.106 across 63 plate appearances while striking out 22 times. The 27-year-old has shown a knack for getting on base, however, as evidenced by his career .394 OBP across seven minor-league seasons, though he'll need to prove he can make contact more consistently if he wants to contribute in the majors anytime soon.

Braves' Colin Walsh: Heads to Atlanta on minor league deal
Walsh signed a minor league contract with the Braves on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
Walsh was a Rule 5 draft pick by the Brewers in 2016, but he was sent back to the Athletics after striking out in over one-third of his at-bats in the majors. The 27-year-old infielder does have a knack for getting on base thanks to an excellent walk rate, but he'll need to make contact more consistently if he wants to contribute at the major league level in the near future.

Athletics' Colin Walsh: Claimed Saturday by A's
Walsh returned to the A's on Saturday after he was designated for assignment by the Brewers, the Bay Area News Group's John Hickey reports. He'll report to Triple-A Nashville.
The Brewers selected Walsh in the Rule 5 draft as he was unprotected by Oakland, and now with Milwaukee designating him for assignment, the A's had the opportunity to bring Walsh back into the fold without him needing to occupy a 40-man roster spot. Walsh should provide infield depth at the Triple-A level going forward.

Walsh was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Tuesday.
Milwaukee claimed Neil Ramirez off of waivers from the Cubs on Tuesday, so the move to DFA Walsh comes in response to the need to free up a roster spot. Walsh appeared in 38 games for the Brewers but went just 4-of-47 at the plate, striking out 22 times. If he passes through waivers unclaimed, he'll likely wind up at Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Brewers' Colin Walsh: Makes Brewers' Opening Day roster
Walsh has been informed that he will be part of the Brewers' Opening Day roster, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.
Walsh hit just .238 this spring, but the Brewers took him in the Rule 5 draft because of his on-base skills, and he did not disappoint there, reaching base at a .400 clip. He is clearly behind Scooter Gennett at the second base position, but Gennett has trouble with left-handers, so Walsh figures to see some action against opposing southpaws. While Walsh will break camp with the Brewers, he must remain on the major league roster the entire season or be offered back to his old club, the A's.

Walsh is for 4-for-19 (.211) with a double, four RBI, and four walks through 11 spring games.
Walsh has not been doing much hitting this spring, but his four walks leave him with a .360 OBP, and his ability to get on base was one of the main reasons the Brewers selected him in the Rule 5 draft. It's still too early to gauge if the Brewers will keep Walsh around, but if they do, he could find himself in a second-base platoon -- albeit on the wrong side of it -- with Scooter Gennett.
