The 25-year-old is expected to play regularly while alternating with Juan Yepez at first base and designated hitter. Chaparro is starting at first base and batting sixth Tuesday in Baltimore in his major-league debut.

The 25-year-old infielder will get his first taste of the big leagues after he combined to hit .328 with 23 home runs, 85 RBI, 76 runs and three stolen bases over 105 games with Triple-A Reno and Triple-A Rochester this season. With Jose Tena sustaining a thumb injury Sunday that could force him to the injured list, Chaparro could end up replacing him as the Nationals' primary option at third base in the short term.

Chaparro agreed to a deal with the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Chaparro was one of the more coveted minor-league free agents on the market this winter, having put up 25 home runs and 89 RBI across 137 games this past season with the Triple-A affiliate of the Yankees. He registered a .963 OPS with 19 homers over 64 games at Double-A Somerset in 2022. The 24-year-old corner infielder could get his first taste of MLB action next season in Arizona, though the Diamondbacks' recent acquisition of Eugenio Suarez clouds that path a bit.

Anthony Volpe has been the prospect getting the most buzz in Yankees camp, but Chaparro has looked great too, slashing .314/.400/.743 with a team-leading five homers and 12 RBI. Chaparro was optioned to minor-league camp in early March, and unlike Volpe, he has yet to play at Triple-A. However, given his strong performance in camp, it wouldn't be surprising if he reaches that level -- and potentially gets a look in the majors -- at some point this season.

Chaparro was reassigned to minor-league spring training after Monday's exhibition against the Pirates.
Chaparro gained valuable experience while with the big-league club, as he went 4-for-16 with two homers, six RBI and three runs scored over eight spring appearances. He spent 64 games with Double-A Somerset in 2022 and certainly played well enough to earn a promotion, slashing .289/.369/.594 with 19 home runs, 52 RBI, three stolen bases and 36 runs scored. Even so, it remains to be seen whether he'll begin the year with Double-A Somerset or Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
