Fantasy News

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Getting breather Sunday

Narvaez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. The 26-year-old appears to have taken hold of the starting gig behind the plate in Boston, as he has a .991 OPS through 11 games in May and had started four straight games coming into Sunday. Connor Wong will catch for Brayan Bello in the series finale versus Atlanta.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Playing time picking up

Narvaez will start at catcher and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Tigers. He'll get the nod behind the plate for the fourth time in five games and seems to have taken over as the Red Sox's preferred backstop ahead of Connor Wong, who is batting just .146 on the season. Narvaez has performed well at the dish, especially by catcher's standards, throughout the campaign, slashing .260/.313/.433 with four home runs and 14 RBI across 112 plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Belts two-run homer Saturday

Narvaez went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 10-1 win over Kansas City. Narvaez crossed home plate in the fifth frame on a Rafael Devers RBI single, and the former extended Boston's lead to eight runs in the eighth with a two-run blast off Angel Zerpa. While Connor Wong's return from the injured list has led to less playing time for Narvaez, the 26-year-old has done well at the plate as of late. Over his last eight starts, Narvaez has gone 10-for-29 (.344) with five runs scored, two home runs and seven RBI.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Continues to fill in serviceably

Narvaez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to Toronto. Narvaez has now logged at least one hit in five of his last six outings. Over his last nine games, the backstop is batting a healthy .265 (9-for-34) with three homers, one double, four RBI and seven runs scored. Although Connor Wong (wrist) is nearing a return from the injured list, Narvaez's performance in his stead may have helped him create a timeshare behind the dish for the Red Sox once the former is healthy.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Idle for Game 1

Narvaez isn't in the lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Cleveland, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Narvaez will take a seat after hitting a solo home run and striking out twice Thursday. Blake Sabol will start behind the plate and bat eighth.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Productive night at plate in rout

Narvaez went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Friday's win over the White Sox. Narvaez lined his fourth double already this season in the fourth inning, later crossing the plate on Ceddanne Rafaela's two-run blast. Top backstop Connor Wong is still recovering from a fractured finger, so Narvaez should at least remain Boston's primary catcher for the time being. Narvaez is slashing just .208/.269/.354 with one home run, five RBI and six runs scored over 52 plate appearances (14 games), and his fantasy appeal will remain restricted by his consistent placement near the bottom of Boston's batting order.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Makes second straight start

Narvaez went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double and two RBI in Friday's 13-9 win over St. Louis. Narvaez found himself in the starting lineup for a second straight game and rewarded manager Alex Cora by contributing offensively to the win. He's caught both games started by Walker Buehler.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Delivers run in loss

Narvaez made his first start of the season and went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Texas. Boston hitters failed to deliver the first 11 times they came to the plate with runners in scoring position before Narvaez broke the fever with an eighth-inning single. The veteran beat out Seby Zavala this spring to be the backup to Connor Wong at catcher.

  • Yankees' Carlos Narvaez: Optioned to Triple-A

The Yankees optioned Narvaez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. With Jose Trevino (quad) returning from the injured list Thursday and claiming the backup catcher spot, Narvaez will be pushed back to the minor leagues. The 25-year-old appeared in six games during his latest stint in the majors, going 3-for-13 with six strikeouts. Should Trevino or Austin Wells need to miss an extended period of time down the stretch, Narvaez would almost certainly be called upon to rejoin the Yankees.

  • Yankees' Carlos Narvaez: Summoned from Triple-A

The Yankees recalled Narvaez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday. Narvaez will join the Yankees and provide the team with a third catcher while outfielder Alex Verdugo (personal) is on the paternity list. He will likely be returned to the minors later this week when Verdugo is ready to rejoin the 26-man active roster.
