  • Marlins' Darren McCaughan: Returning to Miami

The Marlins claimed McCaughan off waivers Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Jacksonville. The 28-year-old signed with the Marlins in March but was traded to the Guardians in May, only to end up back in Miami after being designated for assignment by Cleveland. McCaughan has given up 14 earned runs in his three big-league outings between the two clubs this year, and he has a 5.50 ERA over 54 innings at the Triple-A level this year.

  • Guardians' Darren McCaughan: Loses 40-man spot

The Guardians designated McCaughan for assignment Sunday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. McCaughan will cede his spot on the 40-man roster to right-hander Gavin Williams (elbow), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Since the Guardians acquired him from the Marlins on May 9, McCaughan made two appearances out of the Cleveland bullpen, giving up six earned runs on nine hits and six walks over six innings. He'll stick around in the organization as starting depth at Triple-A Columbus if he clears waivers.

  • Guardians' Darren McCaughan: Optioned to Columbus

The Guardians optioned McCaughan to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday. After being recalled by the big club Thursday, McCaughan pitched four innings against the Royals on Friday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out one. The move makes room on the 26-man roster for right-hander Eli Morgan (elbow), who was activated from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Guardians' Darren McCaughan: Back in majors

The Guardians recalled McCaughan from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday. McCaughan was dispatched back to Triple-A on Monday after appearing in one game for the Guardians. He'll now return to the majors to replace Xzavion Curry, who was optioned to Columbus in a corresponding move. McCaughan has allowed 10 earned runs in 6.2 MLB innings between Cleveland and Miami, and he'll almost certainly be limited to low-leverage opportunities during his stint in the bigs.

  • Guardians' Darren McCaughan: Traded to Cleveland

The Guardians acquired McCaughan from the Marlins in exchange for cash considerations. McCaughan had been designated for assignment by the Marlins after giving up eight earned runs over 4.2 relief innings. The 28-year-old is capable of pitching as a starter or reliever and will give Cleveland swingman depth at Triple-A Columbus.

  • Marlins' Darren McCaughan: Recalled by Miami

The Marlins recalled McCaughan from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday. McCaughan has a 1-2 record over five starts for Jacksonville, posting a 6.14 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB over 22 frames. Right-hander Bryan Hoeing (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • Marlins' Darren McCaughan: Optioned to Triple-A

McCaughan was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville by the Marlins on Tuesday. McCaughan had a couple scoreless appearances this spring, but that wasn't enough to prevent him from being an early roster cut. Acquired via trade from the Mariners last month, McCaughan will likely be part of Jacksonville's rotation.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Summoned by Seattle

McCaughan was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. McCaughan had a trio of stints with the Mariners earlier in the year, and he will get another one before August comes to a close. He was not up for long in any of the three previous instances, and that could be the case again this time around with fellow pitcher Bryan Woo (forearm) on the verge of a return.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Could be added to roster

McCaughan is headed to Chicago to join the Mariners and could be recalled prior to the team's series opener Monday versus the White Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Devin Sweet is also travelling with McCaughan from Tacoma to Chicago and one of them is expected to take the roster spot vacated by Emerson Hancock (shoulder). Seattle might opt to add both pitchers to the bullpen after they needed seven innings of relief Sunday in Houston following Hancock's injury.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Heading back to Tacoma

The Mariners optioned McCaughan to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday. Seattle called McCaughan up from Tacoma on Monday, but he wasn't needed out of the bullpen for either of the first two games of the Mariners' series in San Francisco. Though McCaughan appeared to be a candidate to fill in for the injured Bryce Miller (finger) in Wednesday's series finale, the Mariners instead opted to call up Tommy Milone from Tacoma to make a spot start.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Traveling with Mariners

McCaughan will be traveling with the Mariners to San Francisco for the three-game series against the Giants that begins Monday, and he'll presumably serve as a spot starter Wednesday if Bryce Miller (finger) is forced to miss his scheduled turn, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Divish notes McCaughan, who has a 3-4 record, 6.56 ERA and 1.49 WHIP across 14 appearances (13 starts) at Triple-A Tacoma, was in the Mariners clubhouse postgame Sunday ahead of the road trip, although no official announcement of him being on the taxi squad has yet been made. The right-hander has made two appearances at the big-league level this season, pitching to a 6.75 ERA and 2.25 WHIP with a 7:3 K:BB across four innings. Miller's status may come down to how he's feeling Tuesday, with manager Scott Servais previously confirming the right-hander was receiving constant treatment for the painful blister that forced him out of Friday's start against the White Sox early.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Recalled from Triple-A

Seattle recalled McCaughan from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. McCaughan struggled in a brief prior stint with the Mariners and is carrying a rough 8.33 ERA in 40 innings of work this season at the Triple-A level. The 27-year-old will likely fill a mop-up role in his return to the bigs.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Optioned to Triple-A

The Mariners optioned McCaughan to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. McCaughan allowed an unearned run during Tuesday's appearance against the Brewers, and the Mariners will recall a fresh bullpen arm in Tayler Saucedo to take his place.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Call-up imminent

The Mariners are expected to call up McCaughan from Triple-A Tacoma prior to Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The Mariners need fresh arms after Tuesday's 14-9 loss to the Cubs, and McCaughan will provide the club a multi-inning reliever while he's with the team. Jose Rodriguez threw three innings and likely won't be available for the next couple of games, so it seems likely he'll be the arm moved down to Tacoma in the corresponding transaction.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Removed from 40-man roster

McCaughan was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. McCaughan appeared in two games for the Mariners in late July and spend the rest of the season at the Triple-A level. He posted a 4.53 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 99:17 K:BB over 115.1 innings for Tacoma and has now been removed from the 40-man roster heading into the offseason.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Returns to minors

McCaughan was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. McCaughan was tagged for seven runs over four innings during his first big-league start Monday, and he'll now head back to Triple-A. Hector Santiago returned from his suspension Tuesday and should claim McCaughan's spot in the rotation.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Confirmed to start Monday

McCaughan is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Astros, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. McCaughan will be rewarded with a start after he thrived while working as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen in his MLB debut Wednesday, when he limited the Rockies to one run on no hits and three walks. The 25-year-old right-hander generated only one swinging strike among his 61 pitches in the outing, and he posted an underwhelming 18.9 percent strikeout rate over 10 starts at Triple-A Tacoma this season. His reliance on inducing weak contact to record outs will make it difficult to trust him in fantasy.

  • Mariners' Darren McCaughan: Contract selected by Seattle

McCaughan's contract was selected by the Mariners on Wednesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. McCaughan made 10 starts at Triple-A Tacoma to begin the year, and he posted a 3.97 ERA and 46:13 K:BB in 59 innings during that time. The Mariners haven't yet announced what the right-hander's role in the majors will be, but he could be a candidate to join the rotation since several of the team's starters are dealing with injuries. Outfielder Dillon Thomas was sent down in a corresponding move.
