Luke Keaschall's breakout season was cut short by Tommy John surgery in August, but it won't affect him long term and he could be ready for the start of the 2025 season. A second baseman by trade who'd also seen time in center field, Keaschall had been playing out of position at designated hitter or first base for a good chunk of the season due to his ailing throwing arm before eventually getting the surgery. A second-round pick in 2023 out of Arizona State, Keaschall showed that he is good at everything that matters in fantasy: hitting for average/OBP, hitting for power and stealing bases. He slashed .307/.426/.489 with 17 home runs, 24 steals, a 30.2 percent hard-hit rate, a 14 percent soft-hit rate and a 17 percent strikeout rate in 110 games split between High-A and Double-A. For the sake of comparison, Keaschall is two weeks older than 2024 first-overall pick Travis Bazzana and four weeks older than 2024 fifth-overall pick JJ Wetherholt, and of the three second basemen, Keaschall's statistical exploits in pro ball are easily the most impressive. His prospect Q rating lags well behind the tools and performance he showed in 2024, so this offseason is a prime time to buy in dynasty leagues.

    Keaschall was reassigned to Minnesota's minor-league camp Sunday, Matthew Leach of MLB.com reports. Keaschall was limited to only batting during most of spring training due to his recovery from Tommy John surgery last August. He made a strong impression against major-league spring competition by hitting a home run with a .813 OPS. He'll likely begin the season at Double-A but could be in the majors this summer.

He appeared as a pinch hitter and stayed in the game at DH as he isn't able to play in the field due to his recovery from Tommy John surgery last August. Keaschall has been taking grounders at second base but not throwing once he gets the ball. He could be cleared to begin throwing by the middle of March, the Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Keaschall almost surely isn't going to make the Opening Day roster, but he should debut during the 2025 season after slashing .303/.420/.483 with 15 home runs and 23 stolen bases between High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita in 2024. The 22-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery last August, but while the Twins might take things slowly with his throwing early on in camp, he is expected to be ready for the start of the season.

Keaschall has battled elbow problems for much of the season, although it hasn't affected his production as the 21-year-old is slashing .303/.420/.483 with 15 homers and 23 stolen bases between High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita. Because he's a position player, having the surgery now will give Keaschall a shot to be recovered in time for spring training. Assuming he's healthy, Keaschall could debut for the Twins in 2025.
