Tim Lincecum: Granted release Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) was released by the Rangers on Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

With Lincecum's 30-day rehab assignment coming to an end Monday, the Rangers opted to cut him loose rather than make room for him on their active and 40-man rosters. The decision was likely made easier by the 6.17 ERA Lincecum posted over 11.2 innings on his rehab assignment. He'll look to latch on elsewhere, though at this point it's tough to see him making an impact at the major-league level again.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Decision day looms
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum's 30-day rehabilitation assignment for a blister he suffered on his right middle finger ends Monday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

The Rangers don't appear to be ready to bring Lincecum up to the majors. The right-hander has a 6.17 ERA over 11.2 innings and has allowed 1.89 baserunners per inning. Manager Jeff Banister said the report he received indicated good fastball command, but the velocity is down and his secondary stuff needs work. Come Monday, the Rangers will need to activate him, ask him to remain on the disabled list indefinitely, request a minor-league assignment, or offer him his release.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: No decision on activation
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Rangers have yet to map out a target return date for Lincecum (finger) to return from the 60-day disabled list, Dic Humphrey of MLB.com reports.

Lincecum's health no longer seems to be much of a concern since he has already logged eight rehab appearances at Triple-A Round Rock, but his poor performance in those outings has delayed the Rangers from adding him onto the active roster. The right-hander has given up eight runs on 13 hits and seven walks over 9.2 innings at Round Rock while showcasing diminished velocity, providing little optimism that he'll be able to find much success against major-league hitters. He may need to string together several quality performances in a row in the Pacific Coast League before he returns to the majors for the first time since 2016.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Throws two innings Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) tossed two innings of relief for Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Jeff Arnold of MLB.com reports.

There is still no timetable for Lincecum, who is 0-1 with a 7.11 ERA over five minor-league appearances. Manager Jeff Banister was pleased with Thursday's performance, when Lincecum got up to 28 pitches (16 strikes), but maintains the right-hander will remain on the disabled list until he can throw three innings.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Throws scoreless rehab outing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) allowed two baserunners and struck out two in a scoreless inning for Triple-A Round Rock on Friday, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.

This was Lincecum's third outing -- and the first scoreless one -- of his rehabilitation stint. The report following Friday's outing was similar to his first two appearances: the right-hander is building arm strength and trying to push his velocity beyond 90 mph.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Begins rehab assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) allowed two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two over one inning in the first game of his rehabilitation assignment, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Lincecum threw 16 pitches (nine strikes) for Triple-A Round Rock in his first game appearance since Sept. 4, 2016. "It was pretty nerve wracking, my first three batters or so," Lincecum told reporters. "My nerves were going. My legs were shaking a little bit. Other than that, it was nice to get my feet wet." The right-hander, who will pitch again Wednesday, has been on the disabled list after developing a blister on his right middle finger. During spring training, there had been some talk of Lincecum filling the Rangers' vacant closer role, but that doesn't appear to be an option as Keone Kela (7-for-7) has been flawless in save situations. If Lincecum can get back to being an effective pitcher in the majors, the Rangers will most likely showcase him as a potential trade piece for later in the season.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Set for rehab assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.

Lincecum, who is on the 60-day disabled list with blister issues, has been working through a throwing program at extended spring training. He completed a 26-pitch bullpen with no issues Saturday, clearing the way for him to get back into game action with a minor-league affiliate. It's unclear how many rehab appearances Lincecum will make before joining the Rangers. He'll be eligible for activation May 28.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Set to throw at extended spring training
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) will begin pitching in extended spring training games over the weekend, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Lincecum reported to extended spring training last week to continue his throwing program, and he's now ready to get back in game action there. Barring any setbacks, the veteran right-hander should be cleared to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment after getting a few games under his belt at extended spring training. He's eligible to return from the 60-day DL on May 28.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: To continue throwing at extended spring training
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) will report to extended spring training over the weekend to continue his throwing program, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Lincecum felt good after tossing an inning of batting practice earlier in the week, so he'll head to Arizona as he continues to ramp up his activity. Barring any setbacks, Lincecum could embark on a minor-league rehab assignment as early as May 6. He's eligible to return from the 60-day DL on May 28.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Throws BP on Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) tossed an inning of batting practice Tuesday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Lincecum was pleased with his 22-pitch session, in which he threw all of his pitches. He's on the 60-day disabled list to avoid being rushed back and is not eligible to return until May 28.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Set to face hitters Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) will face live hitters Tuesday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Lincecum appears to be progressing well in his rehab program. Since he's on the 60-day disabled list, he isn't eligible to return until late May, though it seems like he is on pace to meet that return date at this point.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Lands on 60-day DL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) was moved to the 60-day disabled list Sunday.

Lincecum had seemed to be making progress recovering from a blister on his finger, as he'd thrown a series of bullpen sessions over the past weeks. However, he'll require additional time on the shelf and won't be eligible to return until late May. In a corresponding move, Renato Nunez (hamstring) was claimed off waivers from the Athletics.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Throws bullpen Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) threw a successful bullpen session Friday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Lincecum had a bullpen session postponed last week to allow the blister on his middle finger additional time to heal, and it appears to have proved beneficial as he is scheduled to throw again Sunday. The veteran right-hander still must face live hitters in batting practice and also begin a rehab assignment before Texas will thin about adding him to the bullpen, leaving no firm timetable for his return.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Planned bullpen scrapped Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum didn't complete his scheduled bullpen session Sunday in order to give more time for the blister on his middle finger to improve, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Lincecum is expected to resume throwing off a mound Monday, so the one-day delay shouldn't have a dramatic impact on his timeline to return from the disabled list. Once Lincecum faces hitters in live batting practice and starts a rehab assignment, a firmer target date for his activation should come into focus.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Another bullpen scheduled
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) will throw a bullpen session Sunday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Lincecum has thrown a few bullpen sessions but is waiting for the healed skin on his blistered finger to callous over before facing hitters.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Throws bullpen session
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

This was the third bullpen in the last five days for Lincecum, who came out of the exercise with no issues. "He was good," pitching coach Doug Brocail said. "He was really good the other day. It's coming." He'll take Thursday off, and the Rangers will figure out the next step: either another bullpen or live batting practice.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

This marks the third session in the past five days for the right-hander, who appears to be making strides in his return from a blister issues. If he continues ramping up activity at this pace he could be back in action prior to his expected timetable of early May.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Throws again Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) threw a bullpen session Monday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

It's unclear when Lincecum will be lifted from the disabled list, but it's promising that he's been able to participate in workouts without having his blister return. Once healthy, look for Lincecum to join the Rangers' bullpen.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Throws bullpen Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum on Saturday threw his first bullpen session since suffering a blister on his right middle finger nearly two weeks ago, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

The blister does not appear to be an issue for Lincecum, who has played catch and thrown off a mound without any setback.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Begins playing catch
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lincecum (finger) has started playing catch, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Lincecum, who is on the disabled list with a blister on his right middle finger, is throwing without issue. The next step will be to resume throwing off the mound. The goal is for him to be in the active lineup by May, but his role remains unclear. Manager Jeff Banister floated the idea of Lincecum as a closer candidate, but we'll need to first see how the Rangers get by with Keone Kela and Kevin Jepsen at the end of games.
