Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Back in big leagues
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Twins called up Celestino from Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Celestino played the first 10 games of his big-league career earlier this month but accomplished very little at the plate, slashing .125/.152/.250. He was optioned back to the minors Friday, but he'll be eligible to return just four days later as a replacement for Byron Buxton, who broke his hand Monday in his third game back from the injured list. Celestino will start in center field in Tuesday's game against the Reds, but since he's a right-handed hitter, the 22-year-old may be slated for a short-side platoon role at the position with either Nick Gordon or Max Kepler while Buxton is on the shelf.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Optioned off roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino was optioned by the Twins on Friday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Celestino had been on the active roster for most of June. He didn't do much at the plate in his first taste of the majors, hitting .125/.152/.250 in 33 plate appearances, but for now he'll remain on the taxi squad rather than heading to the minors. Max Kepler (hamstring) was activated off the injured list in a corresponding move.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Hits first big-league homer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Celestino took Marco Gonzales yard in the fourth inning for his first major-league home run. The 22-year-old was recalled last week after the Twins lost yet another outfielder to the injured list and should continue to get the majority of starts in center field until Byron Buxton (hip) is ready to return.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Recalled by Twins
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino was recalled by the Twins on Wednesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Celestino was sent down Tuesday, but he'll return to the major-league roster one day later after Kyle Garlick (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. The 22-year-old could see some playing time in the near future since the Twins are dealing with multiple injuries in the outfield.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Optioned to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

The rookie returns to Triple-A now that Rob Refsnyder (concussion) has passed protocols and been activated. Celestino went hitless in four games with the Twins, striking out once in each contest.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Sits after four straight starts
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Celestino heads to the bench for the first time after starting in center field in all four of his games since being called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday. He'll remain Minnesota's top defensive option at the position while Byron Buxton (hip) is on the shelf, but Celestino doesn't look MLB-ready as a hitter. The 22-year-old has gone hitless with four strikeouts through his first 12 plate appearances in the big leagues.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Recalled from Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Twins recalled Celestino from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Just a day after being promoted from Double-A, Celestino has now been called up to the big-league club to replace Rob Refsnyder (concussion). The rookie, one of the Twins' higher-ranked prospects, will bat ninth and play center field in his MLB debut.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Promoted to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino was promoted from Double-A Wichita to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Celestino will move up to the highest level of the minors after slashing .250/.344/.381 with two home runs, seven RBI and 10 runs over 96 plate appearances at Wichita. The 22-year-old could be on the short list for a call-up later this summer if the Twins' depth in the outfield is tested even further.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Rejoins spring lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino (undisclosed) started in center field and went 1-for-3 in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Rays.

Celestino exited Thursday's game against the Red Sox after he appeared to injure himself while sliding into second base, but his return to action a couple days later implies he was likely removed as a precaution. The 22-year-old outfielder is expected to open the 2021 season at Triple-A St. Paul or Double-A Wichita.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino was removed in the eighth inning of Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox with an apparent injury, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Joins 60-man player pool
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino was included in Minnesota's 60-man player pool ahead of summer camp before the 2020 season begins, MLB.com reports.

When the Twins acquired Celestino in July 2018 from Houston in the Ryan Pressly trade, he had some slap hitter qualities, struggling to impact the baseball. While he only hit .174 with six strikeouts and one home run in 24 plate appearances in big-league spring training, Celestino's showed added strength after gaining 15 pounds. He's likely to spend the full season at Minnesota's alternate training site, but his inclusion shows the team is high on his potential.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Got stronger over offseason
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino gained 15 pounds over the offseason after working out with Juan Soto in the Dominican Republic, Mike Rosenbaum of MLB.com reports.

He came to camp bigger and stronger after working on his lower-half mechanics over the offseason. When the Twins acquired Celestino in July 2018 from Houston in the Ryan Pressly trade, he had some slap hitter qualities, struggling to impact the baseball. While he only hit .174 with six strikeouts and one home run in 24 plate appearances in big-league camp, Celestino's added strength combined with his plus speed makes him someone to watch whenever minor-league games get underway.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Added to 40-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino was added to the Twins' 40-man roster Wednesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com Wednesday.

The move protects Celestino from selection in the upcoming Rule 5 draft. The 20-year-old has good speed and a promising hit tool, but he's far from ready for a big-league role as he spent the bulk of the 2019 campaign with Low-A Cedar Rapids.

Twins' Gilberto Celestino: Acquired by Twins
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celestino was traded to the Twins from the Astros along with Jorge Alcala in exchange for Ryan Pressly on Friday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Celestino has yet to surpass the Double-A level, as he'd spent just three games at Corpus Christi prior to the trade. He put together a .317/.383/.476 slash line with four homers and 21 RBI through 33 games at short season Tri-City, so he certainly holds some potential for the future. The 19-year-old outfielder possesses a strong throwing arm and a decent bat, though he lacks power at the dish.
