Here's what Jimmy Butler learned from Michael Jordan

Chicago Bulls forward Jimmy Butler famously hung out with the Greatest, Michael Jordan this summer, and was even felled by Jordan in a shooting contest. ESPN Chicago talked to Butler about the experience, and what the biggest thing that Jordan taught him in their conversations was.

"How hard you have to prepare," Butler told ESPN.com recently. "The games are the easy part, man. You got to work every single day, put in extra work to make sure you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. Practice isn't enough, you got to get in early, you got to stay late. You got to come back at night. He'll let you know that because he did it, and look what it did."

OK, preparation, sounds like a meaningless soundbite, right? Except that if you listen to the players that train with Team USA in the summer, that's one of the reasons they return energized. Being around the best in the business, you learn about what it takes to get there. That's a big lesson for Butler, but then, work ethic has never really been an issue for him. He climbed his way out of the basement of Tom Thibodeau's rotation and has become the team's best player.

Butler is averaging 18.5 points and 5.4 rebounds this season, and shooting above 40 percent from 3-point range.

Butler has to deal with Jordan's shadow, as every Chicago Bulls star does. The fact that he has built and developed a relationship with Jordan is a good thing, as most often players in that situation are compared in contrast to the legend. Butler having a good relationship with the GOAT will only help his standing in Chicago.
