The Oklahoma City Thunder were obliterated by the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, losing by a final score of 130-91. Thunder guard Russell Westbrook told reporters afterward that the Spurs wanted it more and played with a sense of urgency, unlike his team. He did not seem to like the questions about defense, however, via ESPN's Royce Young:

So was tonight more about energy, or some of the defensive issues of late carrying over?

Uh, defensive issues carrying over ... I'm confused. You didn't say that when we won four games in a row. I'm just a little confused.

You gave up 117 to the Lakers yesterday --

But you didn't say that when we won, so I'm a little confused.

So if you win, it doesn't matter what kind of defense you play?

You can play bad defense [and win], but you don't mention it when we win. But when we lose you want to mention it. I'm just a little confused.

About that defense: Oklahoma City has been inconsistent on that end just about all season. In the Thunder's last 15 games, they've gone 9-6 with the fifth-best offensive rating in the league and the second-worst defensive rating. It's absolutely a problem, especially with Serge Ibaka out of the lineup. Westbrook's offensive explosions have been regularly saving the team, but OKC can't rely on that against the San Antonios of the world.

After a loss like that, though, of course Westbrook wasn't in a great mood. That's why this is much different from the we-did-a-good-job-of-executing interview. I'm a little confused myself, though, over the point he's trying to make. Does he really want more questions about the subpar defense after wins? It's also not as if the Oklahoma City media has been pretending this team has been solid on both ends lately. Everyone knows what's been going on, and all of the Thunder's players know they will be asked about it.
