Harden signed a two-year, $68.6 million deal which includes a player option to return to the 76ers, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. • 76ers' James Harden: Takes paycut, adds player option

Harden opted out of his $47 million player option for next season and will sign a new two-year deal where he earns $32 million in 2022-23 and has a player option for 2023-24, Evan Sidery of reports. Harden took a pay cut to allow the Sixers to fill out the roster, which they did by adding P.J. Tucker and Danuel House. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Harden has made an increased effort to focus on his offseason workout regimen and make financial sacrifices in hopes to bring home an NBA title alongside Joel Embiid.

  • 76ers' James Harden: Opts out to seek team-friendly deal

Harden declined his $47.3 million option Wednesday with the intention of re-upping with Philadelphia on a team-friendly deal to allow for more financial/roster flexibility, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Assuming the reported structure of the deal gets done, it would give Philadelphia the full mid-level exception, $4.1 million bi-annual exception and sign-and-trade possibilities. That would help the Sixers revamp the bench in pursuit of an NBA title. According to Charania, Harden's sole focus is winning a championship with Philly, and in addition to potentially taking a pay cut, he began his workout and on-court regimen much sooner this offseason.

Harden had 14 points (5-13 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-3 FT), six rebounds, four assists and one steal in 37 minutes during Tuesday's 120-85 loss to the Heat. • 76ers' James Harden: Sniffs triple-double in win

Harden finished Sunday's 116-108 win over the Heat with 31 points (8-18 FG, 6-10 3Pt, 9-10 FT), seven rebounds, nine assists and one steal over 41 minutes. Harden looked more like his old self from his Rockets days rather than the new, pass-first guard he's been since joining the 76ers, and this game came at a time when the team desperately needed him. The star guard has been hesitant to embrace a high-usage offensive role in Philly, but he's now reached the 20-point plateau in two of his last three appearances in the series. The Sixers need him at his best if they want a shot at topping the top seed in the East.

  • 76ers' James Harden: Fails to step up

Harden produced 16 points (5-13 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds and five assists across 35 minutes during Monday's 106-92 loss to Miami. He also had five turnovers. Harden failed to deliver an impressive outing even with Joel Embiid (orbital) out. It's a troubling trend for the maligned superstar, as Harden has never attempted over 20 field goals in a game with Philadelphia this season. Additionally, he was unable to create open looks for his teammates -- matching his post-trade season low of five assists. Harden will have another chance to lead in Game 2 on Wednesday with Embiid already ruled out.

  • 76ers' James Harden: Drops team-high 22 in Game 4 loss

Harden registered 22 points (5-17 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 10-11 FT), five rebounds, nine assists, three blocks and one steal in 42 minutes during Saturday's 110-102 loss to Toronto. The 32-year-old superstar fell one dime shy of his third double-double in four games to begin the playoffs. He's has been content so far being a distributor as much as a scorer for the 76ers, but with Joel Embiid (thumb) not at 100 percent, it wouldn't be surprising to see Harden attempt more shots in Game 5 on Monday as Philly looks to close out the series at home.

Harden recorded 19 points (7-13 FG, 2-4 3PT, 3-5 FT), 10 assists and six rebounds in a 104-101 win over Toronto. Harden got back on track after a modest Game 2 performance. The 32-year-old found his form late in the regular season with the 76ers and then carried that momentum into the playoffs, as Harden now has five double-doubles and a triple-double over his last six games, averaging 16.8 points, 13.3 assists, 5.7 boards and 2.2 threes over that stretch. With Joel Embiid and others available to take the scoring load off Harden, he appears content to lean more heavily on his distribution skills to try and lead the Sixers on a deep postseason run.
