  • Grizzlies' Dakota Mathias: Returns to G League

    Memphis didn't re-sign Mathias after his second 10-day contract expired Monday, Keith Smith of reports. After his time in the NBA ended, Mathias immediately joined the G League's Texas Legends. He made his debut for the Legends in Tuesday's 135-118 win over the Iowa Wolves, recording 26 points (9-13 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds and two assists across 39 minutes. Expect the 6-foot-4 guard to continue playing a prominent role for the Legends, at least until he gets his next opportunity at the NBA level. During his stint with Memphis, Mathias appeared in six games and averaged 2.7 minutes per contest.

  • Grizzlies' Dakota Mathias: Back with Memphis

    Mathias signed another 10-day contract with the Grizzlies on Friday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Mathias appeared in four games for Memphis during his first contract, averaging 1.5 points in 2.0 minutes per contest. The Grizzlies currently have Killian Tillie and Yves Pons in COVID protocols and are without Dillon Brooks (ankle) and Steven Adams (illness), but barring additional injuries, Mathias isn't expected to play a significant role for Memphis.

    The Grizzlies signed Mathias to a 10-day contract Thursday via a hardship exception. Memphis is without two players due to injury and has several others in the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols, so Mathias will give the Grizzlies some much-needed depth on the wing in the short term.
