Adrian Peterson sets lofty goal: 2,500 rushing yards in 2015
Adrian Peterson has a number in mind. He wants to rush for 2,500 yards in Minnesota this season.

Now that Adrian Peterson has his newly restructured contract that grants him more financial security, now that he's back with the Vikings at training camp, and, perhaps most importantly, now that he's happy to be back with his team, Peterson appears to be ready to return to his dominant ways in 2015. And don't expect Peterson to take his time getting back up to speed.
Recently, Peterson was asked by the Vikings' website if he had a specific number in mind when it comes to his 2015 rushing total. That's when Peterson casually announced that he wants to hit the 2,500 mark, a number he apparently always eyes.

So, let's state the obvious: Peterson isn't going to rack up anywhere near 2,500 yards next season. The closest a running back has gotten to that mark was Eric Dickerson in 1984, when he ran for 2,105 yards. And, of course, right behind Dickerson is Peterson, who came up just eight yards short of Dickerson's record in the 2012 season, a year that saw Peterson single-handedly carry the Vikings to the postseason.
Considering just how superhuman that 2012 season was for Peterson, expecting him to go for an additional 400 yards is, well, pretty much impossible. Still, for the Vikings, Peterson's confidence is just another promising sign for the team. If Teddy Bridgewater can hit expectations in year two in Norv Turner's system and if the defense can make the leap under the guidance of head coach Mike Zimmer, then the team has a chance to compete in the crowded NFC North.
Throw in a rejuvenated and motivated Peterson, and you might have a playoff caliber team in Minnesota.
