Cam Newton already working out with Mohamed Sanu days after signing with Patriots
Newton is already working out with one of the Patriots wideouts

Cam Newton is getting a head start with the New England Patriots as training camp is a few weeks away, already finding the time to acclimate with one of his wideouts for 2020. Newton was seen working out with Patriots wide receiver Mohamed Sanu Tuesday afternoon, less than 48 hours after the former MVP reached a deal with the Patriots.
This is an opportunity for Newton to revitalize his career after the former MVP looked to be on a Hall of Fame trajectory over eight seasons. Newton has started 124 games in his career, compiling a 68-55-1 record while completing 59.6% of his passes for 29,041 yards, 182 touchdowns, 108 interceptions and an 86.1 passer rating. He also has 4,806 rushing yards and 58 touchdowns, winning the 2015 NFL MVP award and earning three Pro Bowl selections.
Shoulder and foot injuries have gotten the better of Newton over the last two seasons. Newton completed 63.4% of his passes with just seven touchdowns and seven interceptions after suffering a shoulder injury in Week 10 of the 2018 season. He rushed for only 134 yards on 31 carries (4.3 yards per carry) and no touchdowns in seven games -- while being sacked 18 times.
That's the last stretch of football we've seen from Newton, far from the player that was arguably one of the game's top talents to start his career.
Sanu also has something to prove after a disastrous start to his Patriots career. New England traded a second-round pick for Sanu, and only received 26 catches for 207 yards and a touchdown from him in eight games -- averaging just 8.0 yards per catch.
Sanu, who has been a reliable No. 2 receiver throughout his career, recorded just 59 catches for 520 yards and two touchdowns (8.8 yards per catch) in 15 games last season. The Patriots are clearly going to need more out of Sanu if Newton is going to be successful in New England.
Newton and Sanu already linking up is a good start for the Patriots, especially since both players are motivated to perform after a rough 2019.
