D.J. Fluker loses weight in advance of NFL combine, down to 339
Alabama tackle D.J. Fluker weighed in at 339 pounds at the combine, down from 355 at the Senior Bowl.
INDIANAPOLIS -- When D.J. Fluker showed up for the Senior Bowl, he surprised people with his weigh-in. And, as CBSSports.com's Dave Richard noted at the time, not in a good way: Fluker had beefed up from his listed weight of 339 pounds to a heftier 355 pounds.
So it's good news for him that, via NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah, Fluker has managed to lose a chunk of his chunk since then, weighing in at 339 pounds at the combine.
Fluker, the 24th overall prospect on NFLDraftScout.com's big board and the fourth-ranked tackle, was a projected first-round pick in three of CBSSports.com's four mock drafts. (Myself, Rob Rang and Pete Prisco all had him going in the 20-26 range.)
Unlike the other top tackle prospects, Fluker is likely going to be a right side-only lineman. But he can make an immediate impact in the run game for whoever grabs him.
However, Fluker checking into the NFL's version of a job interview with extra weight on his body wouldn't be a great look. Dumping off the additional pounds he picked up between the end of the year and the Senior Bowl is a good look and should boost his stock, particuarly if he performs well during workouts this week.
