Ex-GMs Ron Wolf, Bill Polian up for induction in Pro Football Hall of Fame
Ron Wolf and Bill Polian are up for induction as contributors for the 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame induction.
The first two eligible members for the Pro Football Hall of Fame contributors category are Bill Polian and Ron Wolf.
After a nine-person contributor selection committee met for several hours on Wednesday, they determined Polian and Wolf would comprise the first class of Hall-eligible finalists.
Wolf most notably was the GM of the Packers during the 90's, when he hired Mike Holmgren, traded for Brett Favre, signed Reggie White and won a Super Bowl. Green Bay compiled a 92–52 during his run. He also served as an executive with the Raiders, landing a slew of notable names in the 80's.
Polian, now an ESPN analyst, was GM for the Bills in the late 80's and early 90's and got fired for not winning a Super Bowl (even though he went to three in a row!). He then got the Panthers expansion franchise off the ground quickly before taking over the Colts and serving as GM there from 1997 through 2011.
He drafted Peyton Manning and that worked out OK for Indy. Polian also nailed the draft for a while, bringing in Marshall Faulk (and then trading for Edgerrin James), Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and other big-name talent. He lost his fastball down the stretch, though, and was relieved by Jim Irsay after a pretty incredible run in Indy.
Both Wolf and Polian will need 80 percent of the "yes" vote in order to make the Hall.
