On Friday in New Orleans, federal authorities arrested Peggy Ann Fulford, who allegedly stole millions of dollars from four former professional athletes. Ricky Williams, a former first-round pick who played for the Saints, Dolphins, and Ravens in his NFL career, was one of those athletes.

According to The Times-Picayune, Fulford, 58, was charged with mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, and interstate transportation of stolen property by a federal grand jury. She could be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in federal prison if she's found guilty of the fraud charges and at least 10 years if she's convicted of the other two charges.

Fulford is accused of lying to Williams and three undisclosed former professional athletes, telling them that she was a financial advisor with a Harvard education. She allegedly offered to manage their finances without charging them, according to the indictment.

The Times-Picayune's Ken Daley has more:

Federal investigators said Fulford diverted millions of dollars from Williams and the other victims, laundering the money through dozens of bank accounts and spending it on her own personal expenses, including luxury cars, real estate, jewelry and airline tickets.

The Houston Chronicle reported that Williams and his wife want $2 million to $4 million in lost damages.

Williams won the 1998 Heisman Trophy with Texas and spent 11 seasons in the NFL. In his career, he rushed for 10,009 yards. After retiring in 2012, Williams remained involved in the game. Specifically, he has spoken out about how he believes cannabis can help NFL players.
