Injured Giants WR Hakeem Nicks: I'm 'definitely making training camp'
Despite breaking a bone in his foot a month ago, Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks said he's running and should be ready for next month's training camp.

About a month ago, Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks fractured a bone in his foot while running a route in OTAs, and the team said he’d miss about 12 weeks as he recovered and rehabbed. We also thought it was pretty likely he’d miss much, if not most, of training camp.
So, how’s he doing?
“Definitely making training camp,” Nicks told WFNZ in Charlotte, via sportsradiointerviews.com.
“I started running about two weeks [ago] but the coaches don’t really want me to force the issue right now so I still haven’t started running yet,” he said. “They want me to just take my time with it -- they feel like that’s what’s best. So right now I’m just taking my time with it. ... But I’ll definitely be ready for the season.”
Well, that’s encouraging if you’re a Giants fan. After all, Nicks has back-to-back seasons of at least 75 catches and 1,050 yards, and with the loss of Mario Manningham via free agency, Nicks’ absence would be a major drawback in that receiving corps because of so much inexperience. Obviously, Victor Cruz had a breakout season in 2011, but behind him are second-year receiver Jerrel Jernigan and rookie Rueben Randle.
Ramses Barden also is a backup, but given the choice, New York certainly would rather see Nicks return to his starting spot. Sounds like he will.
