Patrick Mahomes isn't going to single out the offensive line for the Kansas City Chiefs failing to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Mahomes admitted he didn't trust himself in the pocket enough during that game and vowed to improve that this offseason.

How is Mahomes tackling this challenge? One of the Chiefs' prize additions on their offensive line is really helping him out.

"Just communicating with the offensive line on like how they protect," Mahomes said to reporters at Chiefs training camp Thursday. "Orlando (Brown) is great about it and talking about different things that he is trying and seeing how I like them. Trying to build that relationship, build that kind of comfort with them.

"For me, I'll always try to stay within the pocket, especially during training camp. I always feel like I can scramble, and that stuff can happen. We work on it, what can happen throughout a game but working within the pocket and going through the reads and see how the play is working."

Brown's veteran experience will certainly help Mahomes trust his offensive line more. He allowed 28 pressures and three sacks for the Baltimore Ravens last season and didn't allow a single sack or quarterback hit in 389 pass-blocking snaps at left tackle filling in for Ronnie Stanley. Brown has also committed just two holding penalties over the last two seasons. He's just one of four offensive tackles selected to the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons -- joining David BakhtiariTerron Armstead and Laremy Tunsil

Brown is helping Mahomes accomplish his offseason challenge, using the valuable time the two have in training camp to figure out their tendencies. For Mahomes, it's about getting everything right by the time Week 1 arrives.

"There definitely is trying to find what each guy is comfortable with," Mahomes said. "Definitely at that left tackle position, a lot of times you're on an island out there. You're going up against usually the defense's best pass rusher and for him he's trying different stuff, seeing how I like it. We communicate, you can see us communicate on the sideline and we try to find that right spot so when we go into season, we're ready to roll."
