Rams re-signing tackle Joe Noteboom to reported three-year, $40M deal
The four-year veteran could replace Andrew Whitworth in 2022

Fresh off a Super Bowl run that saw him fill in for longtime left tackle Andrew Whitworth as quarterback Matthew Stafford's blind-side protector, Joe Noteboom has struck a lucrative deal to remain with the Rams on Monday, signing a three-year, $40 million extension ahead of 2022 free agency, according to NFL Media. The new deal, confirmed by Noteboom's representation, is worth up to $47.5M, per Ian Rapoport, with $25M guaranteed as the four-year veteran potentially looks to succeed Whitworth in 2022.
Whitworth, for what it's worth, hasn't officially announced plans for 2022, but the 40-year-old veteran has reportedly been leaning toward retiring since Los Angeles won Super Bowl LVI. Noteboom has served as the Rams' top swing tackle when Whitworth has been on the field, but he also made three starts, including the playoffs, on the left side in 2021. Either way, the 26-year-old Noteboom, a third-round draft pick out of TCU in 2018, is now locked into the Rams' long-term plans up front.
At an average of at least $13M per season on his new deal, he's set to either be the NFL's sixth-highest paid right tackle or 16th highest-paid left tackle in 2022, a year after he cost the Rams just over $1.1M.
Noteboom has started 17 games total for Los Angeles, appearing at guard and tackle since joining the NFL.
