Report: Jets sign former Packers QB Graham Harrell
With plenty of holes in their quarterback room for now, the Jets reportedly have tried to plug up one by signing Graham Harrell.
Because the Jets can’t go a day without making some kind of ruckus in their quarterback room, here’s a piece of slightly positive news for the team who needs all the help it can get.
According to Foxsports.com’s Alex Marvez, the Jets have signed former Packers backup Graham Harrell to a contract, and he’s expected to report to the team Wednesday.
As you’ll recall, Young was out of football last year, but he was still good enough to play better than Harrell, who looked subpar for much of the preseason.
And when he’s played in the regular season, Harrell hasn’t done much. In two seasons as Rodgers’ backup, he’s attempted only four total passes.
Now, he’ll attempt to ingratiate himself into a New York team that seems to be imploding with an injured Mark Sanchez, an inexperienced Geno Smith and a coach who doesn’t seem to have control of which one of those guys will start.
It seems unlikely, though, that Harrell has a real chance to make this team. Greg McElroy and Chris Simms also are on the roster, and since McElroy might not play in the team’s fourth exhibition game because of knee and ankle pain, the team needs a quarterback who can actually participate in that final preseason contest.
That might mean Harrell will stick around for only one meaningless game before he’s returned to the unemployment line.
