Drafted in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft -- just two picks ahead of Alshon Jeffery -- Stephen Hill was a massive bust for the Jets, who released the wide receiver earlier this offseason.

Hill signed onto the Panthers practice squad and doesn't blame himself for flaming out in New York. Instead he blames the media.

Hill's issues were discussed at length by the media, because they were such a problem. He posted a 47.1 percent catch rate in 2013 according to Pro Football Focus and did deal with drops.

This was reflected by the lack of interest in Hill after his release.

"We were really the only ones that showed interest in [Stephen Hill], so hopefully that means we get a long look at him," Ron Rivera said.

The Panthers are thin at receiver with Kelvin Benjamin, Jerricho Cotchery and Jason Avant leading the way. If Hill could deliver on his potential and translate into anything more than straight-line speed on the field, he could be an interesting addition.

And if things don't work out, Hill can always blame the Charlotte Observer
