  • Bills' Von Miller: No sure thing for Week 5

Miller (knee) said Wednesday that he's unsure if he'll be ready to play Week 5, when he's first eligible for activation from the PUP list, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Miller received full medical clearance before being placed on the PUP list last week, though the veteran edge rusher acknowledged that gaining clearance was just one piece of the puzzle in terms of returning to game action. The three-time All-Pro has reportedly been recovering well from an ACL tear of his right knee that he sustained last Thanksgiving Day, but until he's back practicing with the team, the Bills may not be able to pinpoint a clear target date for him to make his 2023 debut.

  • Bills' Von Miller: Set to miss first four games

Miller (knee) will begin the campaign on the reserve/PUP list, which means he has to miss the first four games of the season, Sal Maiorana of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports. The Bills were hoping to have the veteran pass rusher back for a tough Week 1 matchup against Aaron Rodgers and the Jets, but Miller is at the stage of his career where he must be handled with care, and the team will play the long game this season. He was thought to be progressing well from a torn ACL suffered in a Thanksgiving game last season, so him being ready to go come Week 5 is not out of the question. Greg Rousseau, Leonard Floyd and A.J. Epenesa will head up the Buffalo pass rush in Miller's absence.

  • Bills' Von Miller: Ends up on PUP list

Miller (knee) was placed on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. Miller suffered a torn ACL on Thanksgiving against the Lions and was progressing well enough in his recovery that in June, he believed he'd avoid the PUP list to start camp. However, despite that not being the case, he'll be free to compete as soon as he passes a physical.

  • Bills' Von Miller: Expects to avoid PUP list

Miller (knee) believes that he'll avoid the PUP list when training camp starts in July, Ryan O'Halloran of The Buffalo News reports. Miller suffered a torn ACL on Thanksgiving against the Lions, but he appears to be nearing the end of his recovery as the 2023 season approaches. The linebacker said Monday that he has "good information from his doctor, and his knee is all healed up." Regardless of how much he's able to participate at training camp this summer, it seems quite possible that the 34-year-old will avoid the PUP list to open the season, but if he doesn't he wouldn't be eligible to return until Week 5, at the earliest.

  • Bills' Von Miller: Expects to be ready for 2023

Miller (knee) expects to be ready to go for Week 1 of the 2023 campaign, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports. Miller suffered a torn ACL on Thanksgiving against the Lions and has been going through the slow recovery process since. The 34-year-old said that he "feels great" and feels like he'll be "ready to go for the start of the season," though he did say that if it wasn't Week 1, he'd be back by Week 6. If he is required to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to open the year, that's where Week 6 comes into play, which would be the earliest he could return in that scenario. Over 11 contests in his first season with the Bills in 2022, Miller recorded 21 total tackles, including eight sacks, while also deflecting two passes and forcing a fumble.

  • Bills' Von Miller: Eye on return to action

Miller, who suffered a torn ACL in November, has been participating in voluntary workouts with his teammates this week, Grace Heidinger of the Bills' official site reports. Said the veteran, "Sitting here at month four, I feel great. I haven't started doing football stuff and rip moves and all that stuff, but I feel great, and I feel positive that I'll be ready to go early in the season for sure." Miller's words indicate he may be no sure thing for Week 1. The Bills followed a similar path last season with Tre'Davious White, who started the season on the PUP list and didn't return until November, oddly enough it was the very game Miller suffered his own injury. Whenever he does return, Miller will certainly bolster the team's pass rush -- at 33 years of age he posted 8.0 sacks in just 11 games last season. We'll see if he shows signs during training camp of being able to return close to Week 1, though a PUP designation looms as a possibility.

  • Bills' Von Miller: May be able to play early in 2023

Miller (knee) said Tuesday that he feels great and is confident he'll be ready "early in the season," but he hasn't started doing any football activities yet, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports. Miller tore his right ACL in Week 12 last season, marking the second time he's suffered the injury during his NFL career. The veteran pass rusher told reporters that he's not stressing about the injury as much as he did in 2013, so it appears his previous experience is proving beneficial. Despite positive updates, Miller still has plenty of hurdles to clear before he's ready for game action, so at this point, it's a possibility he'll miss at least the first few weeks of the 2023 regular season. However, when Miller is cleared, he figures to lead Buffalo's pass rush once again after recording eight sacks in his first 11 games as a Bill last year.

  • Bills' Von Miller: Gets ACL surgery, out for season

Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced Wednesday that Miller will be out for the season after undergoing surgery to address a torn ACL, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports. Miller was placed on injured reserve after injuring his knee during the Bills' Thanksgiving Day win over the Lions, but Buffalo was initially hopeful that he could stage a late-season MRI after his initial MRI didn't reveal a torn ACL but rather a lateral meniscus tear. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Bills had planned for Miller to have surgery this week to reposition the meniscus, but the torn ACL was detected during that procedure. The loss of Miller is a tough one for a Bills squad with Super Bowl aspirations, as the veteran pass rusher leads the team with eight sacks despite having sat out the Week 13 win over the Patriots. With Miller's season now over, the Bills will have to rely on the likes of Shaq Lawson, AJ Epenesa and Greg Rousseau to generate pressure off the edge.

  • Bills' Von Miller: Out indefinitely, avoids ACL tear

Miller (knee) didn't suffer an ACL tear during Thursday's win over the Lions but is out indefinitely and requires further tests Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Though Miller avoided the dreaded ACL tear, he sustained other damage to his knee, which could still put him in danger of missing multiple weeks or even the rest of the season. Initial reports appeared to indicate Miller suffered a knee sprain, though the results of his MRI on Friday should provide clearer information. Any missed time by the star edge rusher will be a blow to Buffalo's defense, especially as the team prepares for an upcoming slate of divisional matchups against the Patriots, Jets and Dolphins.

  • Bills' Von Miller: Suffers knee injury Thursday

Miller won't return to Thursday's game at Detroit due to a knee injury. Miller got twisted up on a play in the middle of the second quarter, staying on one knee on the turf for some time before walking off the field slowly. After a lengthy visit to the sideline tent, he was carted to the locker room, per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com. Ruled out shortly thereafter, Miller likely will undergo a battery of tests to figure out the extent of the issue. The Bills already were down Greg Rousseau (ankle) and A.J. Epenesa (ankle), leaving just Carlos Basham, Shaq Lawson and Mike Love as the team's available edge rushers.

  • Bills' Von Miller: Held out of practice Thursday

Miller did not practice Thursday due to an ankle injury, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports. Miller missed practice for the second day in a row due to an ankle issue following Buffalo's win over the Packers in Week 8. While the nature and severity of this injury are still unclear, it's possible the Bills are simply taking every precaution with the 33-year-old linebacker's health at the midway point of the season. Miller collected 14 tackles and a team-high six sacks over the team's first seven contests, and he'll have one more practice to increase his activity before this Sunday's game against the jets.

  • Bills' Von Miller: Out for personal reasons

Miller missed practice Tuesday for a second straight day due to personal reasons, Sal Capaccio of WGR550.com reports. A veteran with a Hall of Fame resume probably doesn't need much extra work, so unless this lingers into the preseason there's probably little to worry about here. Still, Miller was brought in to get the team over the final hurdle based on his tremendous pass-rush ability, so we suppose the Bills will benefit if he does get back soon to continue learning his new defensive system.

  • Rams' Von Miller: Lands on COVID-19 list

Miller (illness) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday. Miller was among several Rams players to land on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday. It's unclear whether he tested positive or was a close contact, though he could have the chance to return for Sunday's game against Seattle under either circumstance as long as he's vaccinated. Miller has not recorded a sack since being traded to Los Angeles, though he has been a key figure in the team's defense.

  • Rams' Von Miller: Week 10 status TBD

The Rams plan to take it day-by-day with Miller (ankle) ahead of their Week 10 matchup with the 49ers, Stu Jackson of the team's official website reports. Miller, who was acquired by the Rams via trade last week, is waiting patiently to debut with his new team. He is still rehabbing a left ankle sprain, so his status will need to be monitored throughout the week. His ability to pass a physical during the trade process indicates the issue should not keep him out for too long.

  • Rams' Von Miller: Week 9 status hinges on warmups

The Rams continue to list Miller (ankle) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Titans and will have him take part in pregame warmups before a decision is made on his status, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Los Angeles was confident enough in the health of Miller's sprained left ankle to acquire him from Denver on Monday, but there's still a chance that his Rams debut will have to wait another week. He was limited in practice Thursday before sitting out Friday's session entirely, prompting the Rams to label him a game-time decision heading into the weekend. Miller's situation doesn't appear to have changed much as Sunday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff approaches.

However, if Miller can't go Sunday, Jonathan Cooper would step into a larger role at linebacker.
