McKivitz (undisclosed) left Sunday's 47-24 loss to the Cardinals early, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. McKivitz required a cart to get to the locker room after he walked off the field in the second half with an undisclosed injury. The offensive lineman had been nursing a minor knee injury according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com, but it's unclear if he suffered a knee injury or something else. With San Francisco's season officially over, McKivitz will now shift his focus to rest and recovery.

  • 49ers' Colton McKivitz: Slated to start at right tackle

Offensive line coach Chris Foerster confirmed Wednesday that McKivitz will be the 49ers' starting right tackle to begin the 2023 season, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports. McKivitz, a 2020 fifth-round pick, has appeared in 28 games (five starts) over his first three NFL seasons. He finds himself in line for a more prominent role during Year 4 with Mike McGlinchey now in Denver. McKivitz signed a two-year extension in March, so he's under contract through 2024.
