Steele signed a five-year, $86.8 million contract extension Sunday with $50 million guaranteed, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Steele signed a one-year tender in April worth $4.3 million after not being able to come to an agreement on a longer-term deal with the Cowboys. However, the two sides apparently didn't end negotiations there and were ultimately able to work out a new contract. The 26-year-old suffered a torn ACL and MCL in Week 14 last season, but he's been cleared to compete since camp started and is considered 100 percent going into Week 1 against the Giants, where he should be the team's starter at right tackle.... Cowboys' Terence Steele: Cleared for start of camp
Steele (knee) received medical clearance Tuesday for the start of training camp and will not be placed on the PUP list, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. Steele is recovering from surgery to repair the torn ACL and MCL of his left knee, an injury sustained back in Week 14, so it's significant to see him avoid the PUP list. It wouldn't be surprising if Matt Waletzko handles some of the first-team reps at right tackle during the early portion of training camp so Steele can ease back into action, but barring any setbacks, the 26-year-old starter seems to have a solid chance of suiting up Week 1.... Cowboys' Terence Steele: Doing on-field work
Steele (knee) isn't a full participant at OTAs but was on the field doing one-on-one work with a member of the training staff Thursday, Nick Harris of the Cowboys' website reports. "Terence isn't quite ready for some of that," coach Mike McCarthy said. "We'll try to interject these [rehabbing] guys the best we can." Steele tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee in Week 14 last season, but he appears on track to resume his starting duties at right tackle in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Terence Steele: Signs second-round tender
Steele (knee) officially signed his second-round tender last week, guaranteeing him a $4.3 million salary in 2023, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. After the team was unable to come to terms on a longer contract, Steele accepted his tender for next season. Steele is expected to make a return in time for the 2023 season after suffering both a torn ACL and a torn MCL in his left knee in Week 14 of the 2022 campaign. The 25-year-old was a budding star prior to the injuries and could reclaim his role as the starting right tackle when healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Terence Steele: Returning to Dallas
Steele (knee) has re-signed with the Cowboys on a one-year deal, Nick Eatman of the team's official site reports. Steele signed his restricted free agent tender with Dallas on Thursday and will thus remain a member of the team this coming season. The 25-year-old appeared in 13 games (all starts) last season until tearing both his ACL and MCL in Week 14. Once he's fully healthy, Steele should have a chance to reclaim a key role on the Cowboys' offensive line in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Terence Steele: Given second-round tender
The Cowboys have placed a second-round tender worth $4.3 million on Steele (knee), The Dallas Morning News reports. Steele operated as Dallas' starting right tackle this past campaign until he suffered season-ending tears in both his ACL and MCL in Week 14. The Cowboys now have until April 21 to reach a long-term deal with the 25-year-old.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Terence Steele: Expected back in 2023
The Cowboys expect Steele (knee) to be ready for training camp, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Steele suffered ACL and MCL tears in his left knee in mid-December, so a return to full strength by training camp would be an impressive feat. The undrafted Texas Tech product began last season as the starter at right tackle for the Cowboys, but his role for 2023 isn't as clear if both Tyron Smith (knee) and Tyler Smith are healthy.... Cowboys' Terence Steele: Shifts to injured reserve
The Cowboys placed Steele (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. This move was merely transactional, as Dallas has already ruled Steele out for the remainder of the campaign due to ACL and MCL tears in his left knee. The undrafted product will turn his sights on rehabbing for the 2023 campaign, while Jason Peters and Josh Bell emerge as candidates to take over at right tackle. However, Dallas may also opt to shift versatile rookie Tyler Smith to the right side if veteran left tackle Tyron Smith (knee) is able to return from injured reserve soon.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Terence Steele: Done for season with ACL, MCL tears
Steele suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee during Sunday's 27-23 win over the Texans and will require season-ending surgery, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Steele exited Sunday's contest in the first half after going down with a knee injury, and a follow-up MRI confirmed the Cowboys' worst fears. The 25-year-old had enjoyed a solid season as the Cowboys' starting right tackle, but Dallas is now expected to turn to Jason Peters and Josh Ball to replace him the rest of the way. Versatile rookie Tyler Smith may also be a candidate to move to the right side, as the Cowboys could be ready to return standout left tackle Tyron Smith (knee) from injured reserve Week 15 in Jacksonville after Tyron missed the team's first 13 games of the season.... Cowboys' Terence Steele: Returns from COVID list
Steele was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday. Steele will return to the field Sunday against Washington, but it's expected La'el Collins will get the start at right tackle. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has suggested a time share at the position or even the two taking the field together, with Steele lining up as a tight end to help the run game in certain formations, Nick Eatman of the Cowboys' official site reports.... Cowboys' Terence Steele: Placed on COVID-19 list
Steele (illness) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday. The starting right tackle was one of several members of the organization that were placed on the COVID-19 list, so he's not expected to face the Saints on Thursday. La'el Collins may replace him at right tackle while he's out, but Ty Nsekhe is another player that might benefit from his absence.... See More ... See Less -
Cowboys' Terence Steele: Making debut as starter
Steele will draw the start at right tackle during Sunday's tilt against the Rams, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. The undrafted rookie out of Texas Tech will slot into the starting lineup in place of La'el Collins (hip). If Steele is able to perform at a competent level, he could secure the starting gig for at least three weeks until Collins comes off injured reserve.... See More ... See Less
