McKeon was a somewhat surprising cut as Dallas trimmed down to a 53-man roster, but he will at least stick around via the practice squad. He secured two of three targets for 11 yards in 13 games with the Cowboys last season.

The Cowboys waived McKeon on Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
McKeon appeared in 13 games for Dallas last year, securing two of three targets for 11 yards. The 2020 undrafted tight end out of Michigan played in 36 contests over the past three years, so it's surprising to see him cut, especially given Dalton Schultz left this offseason and John Stephens tore his ACL during training camp. Gehlken notes that Dallas hopes to sign McKeon to a practice-squad deal if he clears waivers.

Cowboys' Sean McKeon: Roster odds improving
McKeon's chances of making the 53-man roster increased greatly with John Stephens having suffered a season-ending ACL tear Saturday, Nick Eatman of the Cowboys' website reports.
Stephens, an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana, was having an impressive camp and was pushing McKeon for the No. 4 spot on the depth chart at tight end. The rookie's injury doesn't guarantee McKeon a roster spot, as Dallas could elect to go with only three TEs to begin the year, but in all likelihood his job is secure. The 25-year-old has only six catches in 22 games over the last two seasons and would have a minimal receiving role behind Jake Ferguson, Luke Schoonmaker and Peyton Hendershot.

Dallas signed McKeon from its practice squad to the 53-man roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's game versus Chicago, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
McKeon had already been brought up with his three allowed standard elevations, and with regular starting tight end Dalton Schultz (knee) still struggling with a PCL sprain, the Cowboys saw fit to promote McKeon for good. He has one reception for 10 yards on one target through three games in 2022.

McKeon reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
McKeon was elevated for the third time this season ahead of Sunday's 24-6 win over the Lions. However, the third-year tight end saw his lowest offensive usage of the year, playing 16 of his 18 snaps on special teams against Detroit. McKeon has now recorded one reception (on one target) for 10 yards in 2022, and he will require a full spot on the active roster in order to suit up for Dallas again this season.

Dallas elevated McKeon to the 53-man roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's Week 7 clash against the Commanders.
This is the third elevation of the season for McKeon, who was also active in Weeks 3 and 6. He has logged 20 total offensive snaps on the campaign, catching his only target for 10 yards. Since he's now been elevated three times, he'll need to be signed to the 53-man roster the next time the Cowboys desire his services for gameday.

McKeon was elevated to Dallas' active roster for the second game in a row, as tight end Dalton Schultz was still unable to suit up while dealing with a lingering PCL sprain. As a result, the 24-year-old hauled in his lone target for 10 yards while playing nine of the Cowboys' 67 offensive snaps behind Peyton Hendershot and Jake Ferguson. McKeon also appeared on seven special-teams snaps, and he is now eligible for just one more elevation from Dallas' practice squad this season.
