Zach Line (knee) is considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers, so Ortiz is being brought in to possibly fill a starting fullback role. It could be a one-game NFL stint for Ortiz if Line gets healthy before the playoffs, however.

Ricky Ortiz: Tries out for Niners
Ortiz (ankle) worked out with the 49ers on Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
The 49ers are looking to find a placeholder for Kyle Juszczyk, who is expected to miss four to six weeks with a sprained MCL. After the tryout, however, coach Kyle Shanahan announced Ortiz wouldn't be signed, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic.

Ortiz (ankle) was waived with an injury settlement by the Falcons on Monday, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Ortiz appeared in 12 games for Atlanta last season but picked up the ankle injury last week and now heads to free agency. The Falcons opted to sign Keith Smith to serve as the team's fullback.

Falcons' Ricky Ortiz: Collects third reception of 2018
Ortiz hauled in his only target, picking up four receiving yards during Sunday's 24-10 win against the Panthers.
The 24-year-old fullback picked up his ninth career start Sunday and registered his third catch of the year late in the third quarter, when Matt Ryan found him for a four-yard gain on a drive that culminated in a 44-yard Mohamed Sanu touchdown catch. After beating out Daniel Marx and Luke McNitt for the starting role in training camp, Ortiz has been seldom utilized by the Falcons over the course of the season, playing on 11 percent of the offensive snaps and 17.9 percent of the special teams snaps. In Week 17, Ortiz and the Falcons wrap up a disappointing 2018 campaign against a Buccaneers defense that ranks 23rd in yards allowed per game (376.3) and 30th in scoring defense (28.7 points per game against).

Falcons' Ricky Ortiz: Slotted in as starter
Ortiz has been listed as the Falcons' starting fullback on the unofficial depth chart for Friday's preseason game against the Jets, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
As the old Western adage goes, "This town ain't big enough for the both of us." The same almost certainly holds true for the Falcons' fullback competition, where Ortiz is now beginning to be a consistent presence on the first-team offense in 11-on-11 drills. Stanford's Daniel Marx already has been eliminated from the mix, meaning Ortiz and Luke McNitt are the only fullbacks currently remaining on the roster, with Ortiz being the man most likely to receive the starting nod for Friday's preseason opener in the Meadowlands.

Falcons' Ricky Ortiz: Getting opportunity with Atlanta
Ortiz signed a contract with the Falcons on Wednesday, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports.
Ortiz was recently let go by Baltimore after spending most of the 2017 season on injured reserve. The Oregon State product will compete with two undrafted rookie fullbacks in Luke McNitt (Nebraska) and Daniel Marx (Stanford) for a roster spot with Atlanta.
