  • Cardinals' Garrett Williams: Won't play Week 5

    Williams (groin) has been ruled out from playing Sunday versus San Francisco, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports. Williams is dealing with a groin injury that kept him out of practice all week, and he's now set to miss his first game of the season. Per Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com, coach Jonathan Gannon said the the Cardinals "have somebody in mind" to fill in for Williams, but it's not yet clear who that may be. Williams played 93 percent of the team's defensive snaps Week 4 versus Washington.

  • Cardinals' Garrett Williams: Picks off Daniels in Week 4

    Williams logged four tackles (three solo) and one interception during Sunday's 42-14 loss to the Commanders. Williams made a one-handed interception midway through the second quarter on a Jayden Daniels pass intended for wide receiver Terry McLaurin, though the Cardinals' offense wasn't able to accumulate any points off that turnover. It was Williams' second-career interception, with his first coming in his NFL debut last season against the Seahawks in Week 7. Through four games this year, Williams has accumulated 11 tackles (10 solo) and one interception.

  • Cardinals' Garrett Williams: Ruled out for Week 18

    Williams (ankle) won't play in Sunday's season finale against the Seahawks, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports. Williams will finish his rookie season with 23 tackles (four solo), two pass breakups and one interception. The 2023 third-round draft pick out of Syracuse suited up in nine games (six starts) and should reprise a prominent role in Arizona's secondary next season.

  • Cardinals' Garrett Williams: Won't suit up Week 16

    Coach Jonathan Gannon said Friday that Williams (knee) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bears, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports. Williams will miss at least one game while recovering from a knee injury, with his next chance to play coming Week 17 on the road at Philadelphia. In his stead, Starling Thomas and Kei'Trel Clark will be candidates to handle increased work across from starter Antonio Hamilton (calf) against Chicago.

  • Cardinals' Garrett Williams: Will remain on NFI

    Williams (knee-ACL) will begin the season on the reserve/non-football injury list, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports. Williams was placed on active/NFI in late July, as he was continuing to recover from the torn ACL he suffered last October while with Syracuse. There was some hope the rookie cornerback could be ready to return earlier in August, but it appears he's still working to get back on the field. Williams will now be required to sit out at least the first four games of the regular season.

  • Cardinals' Garrett Williams: Lands on NFI

    Arizona placed Williams (knee) on the active/non-football injury list Wednesday. Williams is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during his final season at Syracuse in 2022. The 2023 third-round pick has a chance to compete for a role in Arizona's secondary once he's fully recovered from knee surgery. In his final two seasons at Syracuse, the cornerback recorded 88 tackles, 12 pass breakups and two interceptions over 18 games.

  • Cardinals' Garrett Williams: Arizona adds in third round

    The Cardinals selected Williams (knee) in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 72nd overall. Williams (5-foot-10, 192 pounds) is recovering from an ACL tear he suffered Oct. 29, but once healthy, he should be Arizona's plug-in replacement for standout slot corner Byron Murphy, who headed to Minnesota in free agency. Williams was the best corner on a solid Syracuse pass defense, and he was constantly around the ball while piling up 64 tackles and 10 passes defended in his redshirt freshman season alone (2020).
