Desir is listed as the starting cornerback opposite Kenny Moore on Indianapolis' first depth chart of training camp, the Indianapolis Star reports.
It's a bit of a surprise to see Desir ahead of Quincy Wilson for a starting cornerback job, but the competition is fluid this early in training camp. Desir showed a spark in the Indy secondary when given a chance last season, amassing 32 tackles, seven pass breakups and an interception in his nine games before a season-ending pectoral injury.
Desir finished the 2017 season on injured reserve after tearing a pectoral in December. Now healthy, the fourth-year corner will likely open training camp with the first-team defense.
Prior to Desir's season-ending surgery, the 27-year-old was in the midst of a career year. By all accounts, Desir should roll back into training camp ready at full health. If so, expect him to serve as a leader in the Indianapolis secondary in 2018.
Desir, who the Colts scooped up in September after he was cut by the Seahawks in training camp, proved to be a surprise contributor for the team before suffering the season-ending shoulder injury in Sunday's loss to the Titans. He amassed 32 tackles, seven pass breakups and an interception in his nine games, taking hold of a starting role after Vontae Davis was cut loose in November. With Desir now shut down for the season, the Colts will be forced to rely more heavily on young cornerbacks Nate Hairston, Quincy Wilson and Kenny Moore the rest of the way.
