Gaines' deal with the Browns is a one-year contract worth $4 million, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
Gaines signed with the Browns on Friday but the terms of his contract weren't immediately known. Now that they are, it's clear Cleveland views him as a starter in defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' up-and-coming defensive unit. Playing under Williams while both were with the Rams from 2014 to 2016, Gaines totaled 126 tackles, 21 pass breakups and two interceptions over 26 games.
Gaines signed a contract with the Browns on Friday, Andrew Gribble of the team's official site reports.
Gaines is a solid addition to the Brown's new-look secondary and will reunite with defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who coached Gaines while both were with the Rams from 2014 to 2016. The terms of his contract aren't clear, though he'll presumably slot in as a starter opposite Jamar Taylor, with Jabrill Peppers and Damarious Randall providing help at safety. In 11 games for the Bills last season, Gaines logged 59 tackles, three forced fumbles and a pick.
Head coach Sean McDermott said Thursday that Gaines (knee) "looks like he's ready to go" for Sunday's season finale in Miami, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.
Gaines injured his knee against the Dolphins two weeks ago during their first matchup of the season and subsequently wasn't available for the Bills' Week 16 game in New England. However, after full participation in practice Thursday, he indeed seems set to make a return.
Gaines, who missed Sunday's loss to the Patriots due to a knee injury, returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
The Bills struggled without Gaines in Week 16, as his replacement in the lineup, Shareece Wright, exited after suffering a concussion. Leonard Johnson entered the contest in place of Wright and had a hard time keeping up with the Patriots' aerial attack. Gaines' potential return for the season finale against the Dolphins would be an important development with the Bills' playoff hopes on the line.
Gaines (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against New England.
Gaines was sidelined at practice Wednesday before being limited on Thursday and Friday. His absence means that Shareece Wright or Leonard Johnson will take over as a starting cornerback against Tom Brady and the Patriots.
