Covington is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Patriots due to a thigh injury, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Covington won the starting defensive end job. His absence will open the door for Angelo Blackson to enter the contest. If Covington remains out, expect an update on the severity of his injury after the game.
Covington was shut down after for the season after tearing his biceps in a Week 8 loss to the Seahawks, finishing the 2017 campaign with 16 tackles (10 solo), one sack and one forced fumble across seven games (two starts). After having completed his rehab process following surgery to repair his biceps, Covington shouldn't face any limitations when the Texans' offseason program begins in the spring. Look for Covington to work in a rotational role along the defensive line in 2018, the final year of his rookie deal.
Covington will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair his torn biceps, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Covington tore his biceps during Sunday's loss to Seattle and was placed on injured reserve Monday. Under contract through the 2018 season, Covington will look to make it back in time for the start of offseason workouts.
Covington (biceps) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Covington suffered a torn bicep in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks and will now officially miss the remainder of the year on injured reserve. Covington recorded 16 tackles (10 solo), one sack and one forced fumble in seven games this season. The Texans are dealing with a laundry list of injuries on the defensive line, leaving Carlos Watkins, Joel Heath (knee) and Kendall Langford (back) to assume most of the reps at defensive end for the time being.
Covington becomes the third Texans defensive end to suffer a season-ending injury, with the team having also lost another edge rusher to injured reserve in linebacker Whitney Mercilus (pectoral). Though Covington wasn't as adept at pressuring the quarterback as Mercilus or J.J. Watt (lower leg), his absence nonetheless represents a critical blow to the team's depth on the edge. He'll wrap up the 2017 campaign with 10 tackles, one sack and a forced fumble in seven contests.
