Jones hauled in just one pass in Thursday's preseason finale, but it went for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Jones hasn't been heard from much during the preseason, but he turned on the jets to take his lone catch of the night to the house in the final contest. It still seems like an uphill battle for him to claim a roster spot, but his final showing at least gives him an outside shot.
Jones, an undrafted Memphis product who didn't see the field in the professional ranks during his first year out of college, was previously let go by the Texans in May. He'll look to parlay his speed (4.38 40-yard dash) into a role as a depth receiver and special teams contributor with the Chiefs.
Jones ended the 2016 season on the Texans' practice squad after participating in the team's training camp earlier in the year. Jones was once again a longshot to make the roster, while DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller remain the top two options at receiver for now.
Jones, who was with the Texans during training camp, rejoins the club after it was announced that Braxton Miller had been placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. With Miller and Jaelen Strong (ankle) on IR, the Texans added Wendall Williams from the practice unit and needed Jones for additional depth.
