James (hamstring) was promoted to Minnesota's 53-man roster from the practice squad Tuesday.
James spent the last six weeks on the Vikings' practice squad before he achieved a promotion Tuesday. The rookie out of Southern Illinois will likely have no more than a depth role in the secondary for the Vikings this season.
James (hamstring) was waived with an injury settlement by the Vikings on Friday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
James sustained the hamstring injury in the preseason finale Aug. 31, and was waived/injured by the Vikings at roster cutdowns a couple days later. The 22-year-old reverted to injured reserve after clearing waivers but can now sign elsewhere after reaching the injury settlement.

It isn't clear what kind of injury James is dealing with, but he's nonetheless stuck on IR through the end of the league year unless he agrees to an injury settlement.
