Spillane was promoted from the Titans' practice squad in early October and appeared in two games with the team before being waived. The 23-year-old is likely to serve in a special-teams role should he make it through training camp and onto the 53-man roster in Pittsburgh.
Spillane was waived by the Titans on Monday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Spillane was promoted from the Titans' practice squad to the active roster three weeks ago. He's being released to clear a roster spot for Jalston Fowler. Spillane will now look to catch on with another team, be it on an active roster or a practice squad.
Spillane -- who led the Titans in tackles during the preseason -- spent the first five weeks of the season on the practice squad before his promotion. The rookie out of Western Michigan will likely provide depth at the linebacker position.
