    Cormier put pen to paper on a one-year deal with Barys Astana (KHL) on Monday.

    Following a four-year stint in the QMJHL, Cormier bounced between the NHL and AHL, playing a total of 52 NHL games in which he tallied five points and 18 PIM. The defenseman never cracked the Jets lineup last season, instead spending the entire campaign with the Moose. His move to Russia will be the 2008 second-round pick's first crack at European hockey.

    Cormier will join the Jets for the second time this season, and the 25-year-old has tallied five total points over 51 career NHL games. The center has 12 points (six goals, six assists) and 30 penalty minutes for AHL Manitoba this season, and was one of to forwards recalled to replace Adam Lowry and Drew Stafford on the roster. Either he or JC Lipon (the other forward recalled Sunday) will likely draw into Monday's lineup against the Avalanche.
