  • Golden Knights' Alec Martinez: Dealing with minor injury

Martinez (upper body) is expected to be on the ice Sunday, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports. Head coach Bruce Cassidy said that Martinez is dealing with a "little tweak" and that his day off Saturday was considered maintenance. The veteran blueliner missed all but 26 games last season while dealing with an injury to his face. More information on his status should be known once Vegas announces its lineup for Sunday's preseason tilt with Colorado.

  • Golden Knights' Alec Martinez: Limited by injury

Martinez was limited to 26 games in 2021-22. Martinez posted eight points, 32 shots on net and 68 blocked shots, but it was a four-plus-month absence due to a facial laceration that derailed his season. The Golden Knights likely missed his steady defensive presence, and he's been known to put up solid scoring numbers in the past as well. He'll be 35 years old at the start of the 2022-23 campaign and his selfless shot-blocking tends to make him a significant injury risk for fantasy managers. When healthy, he can be expected to fill a top-four role.

The blueliner is up to seven points, 25 shots, 59 blocked shots and a plus-7 rating through 22 outings overall. Since his return, he's mainly played in a bottom-four role, which is likely to continue to limit his scoring potential.

  • Golden Knights' Alec Martinez: Gets first helper since return

Martinez produced an assist, five blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 5-2 win over the Kraken. A skate cut to the face kept Martinez out of the lineup for over four months, and this was his third game back. The 34-year-old got the on the scoresheet when he set up Jack Eichel's first-period tally. Due to the significant missed time, Martinez is at just four assists in 14 appearances this season. The defenseman has added 44 blocked shots, 14 hits and a plus-5 rating, and he should be a steady source of defensive numbers in the final month of the regular season.

  • Golden Knights' Alec Martinez: Shifted to LTIR

Martinez (face) was moved to long-term injured reserve Monday, per CapFriendly. Martinez has already been out of action since Nov. 11, so the change to long-term IR won't impact his recovery timeline. Still, the fact that the Golden Knights opted to make this move in order to gain some cap relief doesn't bode well for the 34-year-old blueliner being cleared to play in the near term.

  • Golden Knights' Alec Martinez: Making slow progress

Martinez (face) has not resumed skating yet but head coach Pete DeBoer expects the defenseman to return to practice after the holiday break, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports. Martinez has been out since Nov. 11 after he took a skate to the face. While unconfirmed, it's believed he's been dealing with a head injury, which would explain the lengthy absence. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect the 34-year-old back in the lineup right away after the break, as he'll need to get back up to speed.
