  • Flames' Tyson Barrie: Inks one-year contract

Barrie signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with Calgary on Thursday, per Salim Nadim Valji of TSN. Barrie was participating in the Flames' training camp on a tryout basis. He was limited to a goal and 15 points in 41 regular-season contests with Nashville in 2023-24, but he's traditionally been an effective presence with the man advantage. If Calgary uses him on its top power-play unit, then a 40-plus point campaign is entirely possible, but the Flames might opt to use MacKenzie Weegar in that role over Barrie. At the end of the day, while Barrie can be an effective offensive force under the right circumstances, it remains to be seen if the 33-year-old will enjoy those opportunities with the Flames.

  • Flames' Tyson Barrie: Joining club on tryout

Barrie will link up with Calgary for training camp on a professional tryout agreement, the team announced Tuesday. Considering Barrie has reached the 50-point threshold four times in his 13-year NHL career, including the 2022-23 campaign when he played for Edmonton and Nashville, it seems somewhat surprising no team was willing to give him a full contract before the start of the season. No doubt a disappointing 2023-24 season, in which he played in just 41 regular-season contests while generating 15 points, factored into the league-wide hesitancy to give the 33-year-old blueliner a deal. In another Tuesday signing, the Flames added Jarred Tinordi on a two-way contract, so Barrie will have plenty of competition during training camp in securing a roster spot for Opening Night.

  • Predators' Tyson Barrie: Enters lineup, earns assist

Barrie posted a power-play assist in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Canucks in Game 5. Barrie had been scratched for 13 straight games before entering the lineup Tuesday in place of Luke Schenn (illness). It worked out fine, as Barrie helped out on Roman Josi's game-tying goal in the third period. Barrie had just 15 points in 41 regular-season outings this season, and he'll likely be back in the press box once Schenn is healthy enough to return to the lineup.

  • Predators' Tyson Barrie: Garners helper

Barrie notched an assist, two shots on goal and a minus-3 rating in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Coyotes. Barrie has been in the lineup for six straight games as the Predators navigate multiple injuries on defense. He has three assists in that span, as well as eight blocked shots and 13 shots on net. The 32-year-old has been scratched more often than not over the last three months. He's at 15 points, 65 shots on net, 47 blocked shots and a minus-10 rating through 41 appearances.

  • Predators' Tyson Barrie: Still riding pine in Nashville

Barrie (healthy scratch) was almost dealt to the Flames at the trade deadline, but ultimately a deal did not get done, Emma Lingan of The Hockey News reports. Barrie was out of the lineup for the 11th straight game Saturday against the Blue Jackets, and he has played in only five games since the end of December. With just one goal and 11 assists in 35 games this season, Barrie has to be seen as a failed experiment by the Preds since they acquired him in the Mattias Ekholm trade last year. Barrie is expected to become a free agent in July and will look to ply his trade with another team next season.

His helper Saturday was his first point since Dec. 15. The 32-year-old is at 12 points, 48 shots on net, 36 blocked shots and a minus-7 rating through 33 outings.
