  • Red Wings' Ben Chiarot: Caps off well-rounded campaign

Chiarot finished with five goals, 15 assists, 163 hits and 167 blocked shots for the 2023-24 campaign. Chiarot averaged 19:47 of ice time in his second season with the Red Wings. He's a serviceable blueliner, albeit not the type that will captivate the masses in fantasy hockey. Chiarot's power-play role was left behind in Montreal when the Habs dealt him to the Panthers in March of 2022, and the Wings have since rendered him more of a stay-at-home style of defenseman. Chiarot is halfway through a four-year, $19 million deal with the Wings, which has a modified no-trade clause baked in there as well.

  • Red Wings' Ben Chiarot: Registers helper in defeat

Chiarot recorded an assist and two blocked shots in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Penguins. Chiarot provided the secondary helper on the first of two goals for burgeoning winger Lucas Raymond. As a second-pairing defenseman who rarely works on the power play, Chiarot isn't the type of player that fantasy managers generally covet. However, the veteran is mixing it up a bit, pairing 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) with 130 hits and 135 blocked shots through 63 games.

  • Red Wings' Ben Chiarot: Scores in overtime

Chiarot potted a goal in overtime in the 4-3 win over the Kraken on Monday. Chiarot pinched in from the point, took a cross-ice pass from Dylan Larkin and wristed it top shelf over Seattle goalie Joey Daccord 1:07 into overtime. Chiarot added two PIM, two shots on net and a plus-2 rating in 20:39 of ice time. It was only the fourth goal and 14th point through 50 games on the season for the 32-year old defenseman. He has never hit double-digit goals in his career and has topped the 20-point mark just three times, most recently in 2021-22.

Chiarot notched an assist, two hits, four blocked shots and a minus-2 rating in Tuesday's 8-4 loss to the Oilers. Chiarot snapped a three-game drought with the helper in his second game back after missing five with an upper-body injury. The 32-year-old blueliner has 13 points, 65 shots on net, 94 hits, 101 blocked shots, 34 PIM and a minus-1 rating through 47 appearances. His defense-first role means that fantasy managers don't need to track his production closely despite his top-four usage for the Red Wings.

  • Red Wings' Ben Chiarot: Slides assist in Sweden

Chiarot contributed an assist in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Maple Leafs as part of the Global Series in Sweden. Chiarot was the primary distributor on a Lucas Raymond tally to put the Red Wings up 2-0 heading into the third period, but the Maple Leafs dominated the final frame for some extra excitement in Stockholm. Chiarot has crafted four assists over his last five games, which has him on a career-best offensive pace of 28 points. Still, he is off the power play and that's the major drag on his fantasy value.

The 32-year-old Chiarot isn't known to put up a lot of offense, but he has been a steady defensive presence so far with a plus-6 rating, 11 blocked shots and eight hits through six outings. He should continue to play in a top-four role.

  • Red Wings' Ben Chiarot: Gets on scoreboard

Chiarot brushed twine in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Penguins. Chiarot telegraphed a wrist shot past goaltender Tristan Jarry for his first point of the season. While he had an abbreviated training camp in order to deal with a personal matter, Chiarot didn't take long to settle back into the mix as a second-pairing defenseman. He's not a coveted fantasy option, though he'll almost assuredly get his fair share of hits and blocked shots this campaign.

  • Red Wings' Ben Chiarot: Remains out for personal reasons

Chiarot (personal) isn't expected to return until midway through the preseason, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. • Red Wings' Ben Chiarot: Tending to family matter

Chiarot has no timeline for his return to training camp as he's out for "family reasons," per Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Once the regular season opens, Chiarot is projected to slot in on the second defensive pair with newcomer and fellow veteran Jeff Petry. Last year, Chiarot stacked five goals and 14 assists against a minus-31 rating over 76 games in his debut campaign with the Wings.

  • Red Wings' Ben Chiarot: Closes out first season in Detroit

Chiarot, a first-year Red Wing, ended up with five goals, 14 assists and a minus-31 rating through 76 games this season. Chiarot had the worst efficiency rating on the team, but it should be known that he still logged a career high in blocked shots (164) and brought a physical edge with 147 hits. Offensively, he was right on par with his career averages after completing seasons with the Jets, Canadiens and Panthers, respectively. It's clear that GM Steve Yzerman finds Chiarot valuable; after all, the versatile defenseman is on the books for three more seasons at $4.75 million AAV and has a modified no-trade clause built into the contract.
