  • Senators' Jason Akeson: Trades lands winger in Ottawa

Buffalo traded Akeson, Phil Varone, Jerome Gauthier-Leduc, and a conditional draft pick to the Sens on Saturday in exchange for Eric O'Dell, Cole Schneider, Alex Guptill, and Michael Sdao.

It was a rather large deal, but for fantasy purposes, it almost concerns no one. Akeson hasn't appeared in the NHL this season, notching 30 points with AHL Rochester on the year.

  • Placed on waivers

Akeson was cut by the Sabres and placed on waivers Saturday, reports TSN's Bob McKenzie.Akeson will report to AHL Rochester if he goes unclaimed. The 25-year-old winger turned pro as an undrafted free agent with Philadelphia, but his lack of size and all-round game has seen him toil in the minors over the past four seasons. He's become a prolific scorer in the AHL, leading the Flyers' AHL affiliate in scoring three straight years, not unlike teammate Phil Varone, who was cut earlier in camp. Akeson will be one of Buffalo's first call-ups should the need arise.

  • Sabres' Akeson Doesn't Receive Discipline

Akeson was not handed any discipline for his hit on Ottawa's Colin Greening, Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun reports. The hit was a bit high, but wasn't particularly violent or overtly dangerous, so it isn't a huge surprise that the NHL's Department of Player Safety decided the play didn't warrant any discipline. Akeson will continue to battle for an Opening Night roster spot with the Sabres in camp.

  • Sabres' Akeson To Have Disciplinary Hearing

Akeson will have a disciplinary hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for a hit he delivered on the Senators' Colin Greening in Wednesday's preseason contest between Buffalo and Ottawa, TSN's Steve Lloyd reports. The hit wasn't particularly vicious, but was deemed violent enough to warrant a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety. Akeson doesn't have a track record of dirty play, so it seems unlikely that he would be given a suspension for what was a borderline (at best) illegal collision in Wednesday's preseason contest. The results of his hearing should be released within the next few days.

  • Sabres Sign Winger Akeson

Akeson signed a two-way deal worth $575,000 Wednesday, reports John Vogl of The Buffalo News. The undrafted former Kitchener Ranger has been very productive for the Flyers' AHL affiliate over the past two seasons, scoring 117 points in 127 games. The diminutive winger was held without a point in 13 games with the Flyers this past season, and was subsequently released as a free agent. Akeson will provide some scoring depth for Buffalo, but he'll have to battle for a roster spot in training camp.
