Lukas Sedlak: Rights retained by Columbus
Sedlak received a qualifying offer from Columbus ahead of Tuesday's deadline, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Sedlak has already inked a two-year contract to play in the KHL, but this move allows the Blue Jackets to retain his rights should Sedlak one day return to North American hockey.... See More ... See Less
Lukas Sedlak: Joins KHL club
Sedlak agreed to terms on a two-year contract with Chelyabinsk Traktor (KHL) on Friday.
Sedlak spent much of the 2018-19 campaign watching from the press box as a healthy scratch for the Blue Jackets. In total, the center saw action in just 47 contests, in which he secured four goals, two assists and 43 shots while averaging a mere 9:00 of ice time. The Czech's last appearance for Columbus came March 19 versus Calgary. Considering his lack of minutes, it shouldn't come as a shock to see the 25-year-old move overseas. The team will almost certainly issue Sedlak a qualifying offer this summer if only to retain his player rights should he ever want to return to the NHL.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Spoils Vasilevskiy's shutout bid
Sedlak found twine in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Lightning.
Just when it seemed like Andrei Vasilevskiy would end up skating away with his third straight shutout, Sedlak crashed the crease and went five-hole on the elite tender. The 25-year-old rookie has four goals, two assists and a minus-2 rating through 42 games.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Healthy scratch against Blues
Sedlak was a healthy scratch for Saturday's loss to the Blues.
He had just one point (a goal) in his prior 12 games with a minus-2 rating, so it's not a surprise that coach John Tortorella elected to give veteran faceoff specialist Mark Letestu a look on the fourth line in Sedlak's place. The 25-year-old will have minimal fantasy value even if he does work his way back into the lineup quickly.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Gets physical against Sens
Sedlak recorded a team-high four hits in Monday's win over the Senators.
He also added two PIM, two blocked shots and a shot on net. The checking forward had been a healthy scratch the prior five games, but with Nick Foligno away from the team due to a family matter, Sedlak got back into the lineup and took his pent-up frustrations out on Ottawa. The 25-year-old only has three points (one goal, two assists) through 26 games, so even if he does avoid the press box going forward, he's not much of a fantasy asset.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Grabs first point of season
Sedlak manufactured an assist during Thursday's 4-1 win over San Jose.
Sedlak earned his first point of the year by providing a helper during Thursday's win over the Sharks. Sedlak is not an option for fantasy, as he's deployed in a bottom-six role with no power-play time.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Entering training camp healthy
Sedlak, who sustained a head injury last March, is now healthy, The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Sedlak was struck behind his ear with the puck while facing the Panthers last March and it cost him the final 13 games, including the first-round playoff series against the Capitals. The 25-year-old forward has accumulated just 11 goals and 10 helpers over 115 career contests, as the Czech pivot is more defense-oriented.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: No timeline to return
Sedlak (head) is making strides, but remains out indefinitely, Tom Reed of The Athletic Cleveland reports.
If available, Sedlak likely would have been an option for filling out the lineup after Alexander Wennberg (upper body) was hurt in Game 1. In limited action this year (53 games), the 24-year-old Sedlak garnered four goals, four assists and 50 shots, despite averaging just 9:24 of ice time.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Out indefinitely after being struck by puck
Sedlak won't play Saturday and has been ruled out indefinitely after being struck behind the ear by a puck late in the third period of Thursday's win over the Panthers, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic Cleveland reports.
Brandon Dubinsky will move back into the lineup in his place. Sedlak has been in and out of the press box lately even when healthy, seeing action in only three of the Blue Jackets' last 10 games, and his last goal came Dec. 20, highlighting his minimal fantasy value.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Healthy scratch Tuesday
Sedlak was a healthy scratch for the second straight game Tuesday.
The Blue Jackets bolstered their forward depth by adding Mark Letestu and Thomas Vanek at the trade deadline, and Sedlak has become the odd man out as a result. The 25-year-old has only one point (an assist) in his last 22 games, so he's more than earned his spot in the press box. Injuries or slumps could cause coach John Tortorella to shuffle things around and get Sedlak back in the lineup, but for now it looks like he'll mainly be a spectator as the Jackets push for a playoff spot.... Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Point drought continues Tuesday
Sedlak played less than seven minutes in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Capitals, recording two blocked shots.
He hasn't hit the scoresheet in 12 games, and Sedlak's current role on the fourth line isn't going to give him many opportunities to break out of that slump -- he's seen more than 10 minutes of ice time only once in the last seven games. If the Jackets shake up their forward ranks with a deadline deal, the 24-year-old could potentially find himself back in the AHL.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Two helpers in Tuesday's win
Sedlak picked up two assists with a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Stars.
The Sedlak-Oliver Bjorkstrand-Matt Calvert line accounted for both of the Jackets' goals, giving the center his first multi-point game of the season. Sedlak has just four goals and seven points in 28 games on the campaign as he typically gets used in a fourth-line checking role, but with Columbus' forward ranks depleted by injuries, the 24-year-old could parlay his extra ice time into some surprising short-term value.... Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Scores in win over Devils
Sedlak recorded a goal, three shots and three hits through just 9:37 of ice time during Friday's 5-3 win over New Jersey.
This was Sedlak's first goal through eight games since returning from an ankle injury, and he has just a single assist during the stretch. Locked into a depth role and averaging only 10:00 of ice time per game for the campaign, the 24-year-old Czech is off the fantasy radar in the majority of settings.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Ready to return Wednesday
Sedlak (ankle) will return to Columbus' lineup Wednesday against the Flames, Tom Reed of The Athletic Cleveland reports.
Sedlak has missed the Blue Jackets' last 13 games due to an ankle injury, so he'll likely be eased back into action Wednesday. The 24-year-old forward was only averaging 9:58 of ice time per game before sustaining his injury, so he'll return to a bottom-six role against Calgary.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Returns to practice Thursday
Sedlak (ankle) was able to practice Thursday for the first time since being injured in late October, The Columbus Dispatch reports.
He was initially expected to miss six weeks but Sedlak is ahead of schedule in his recovery, and the fact that the Jackets put Zac Dalpe on waivers Thursday would seem to indicate they expect to have Sedlak back in the lineup fairly soon. Once he does return to action, he should slot back in as the fourth-line center.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Injured reserve trip needed
Sedlak (ankle) was injured during practice Monday and will go on injured reserve, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic Cleveland reports.
Sedlak was able to leave the practice under his own power but will reportedly miss six weeks with the ailment. The 24-year-old was skating well on the fourth line and had already tallied two goals on the season in eight games. If Sedlak's rehab goes as expected, he should return to the ice in early December.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Pots empty-netter Friday
Sedlak scored an empty-net goal to cap Friday's 3-1 win over the Rangers.
His first goal of the season provided a bit of redemption for the fourth-line center, as Sedlak took a minor penalty inside the last three minutes of the game with the Jackets clinging to a 2-1 lead, only to get a breakaway attempt that he made no mistake on after getting sprung from the box. The 24-year-old tallied just seven goals in 62 games as a rookie last season, and his current role probably won't afford him many offensive opportunities.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Returns to lineup Tuesday
Sedlak (upper body) will take the ice for Tuesday's Game 4 against Pittsburgh.
Despite the fact that he wasn't able to get much practice time ahead of Tuesday's tilt, head coach John Tortorella likely feels that Sedlak can bring some energy to a team that trails 3-0 in the series. Sedlak has the ability to be an effective bottom-six forward, but with 13 points in 62 games, he's not someone to rely on for offensive production.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Still not ready
Sedlak (upper body) skated for a third consecutive day Saturday but coach John Tortorella signaled that he's still not ready for a full practice session, the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Taking the ice for practice remains the biggest hurdle between Sedlak and a return to the lineup. Given the information, it's safe to rule the forward out for Sunday's Game 3 against the Penguins. The forward doesn't provide a ton of offense or see the ice much when healthy, but he does provide some decent depth in the bottom six that could provide a spark to the team.... See More ... See Less
Blue Jackets' Lukas Sedlak: Slated to sit Friday
Sedlak (upper body) is projected to be an injured scratch for Friday's Game 2 matchup with the Penguins, NHL.com reports.
Assuming Sedlak doesn't make a surprise return Friday, it will mark the seventh consecutive game he's sat as a result of this ailment. The 24-year-old is not likely to re-enter the lineup until he's able to get in a full practice or two with the whole team, so check back for updates on his status ahead of Game 3 on Sunday....
