Jyrki Jokipakka: Signs with KHL club
Jokipakka secured a one-year deal with KHL Sochi on Monday, Igor Eronko of Sport-Express reports.
Jokipakka attempted to earn an NHL contract in training camp with the Capitals, but was released from his PTO. The blueliner will head back to Europe -- this time in the KHL -- and will likely be hoping he can impress enough to get another look heading into the 2018-19 campaign.

Jyrki Jokipakka: Dropped from PTO with Capitals
Jokipakka was released from his PTO with the Capitals on Tuesday.
Originally drafted by the Stars with a 2011 seventh-round pick, Jokipakka hasn't made much noise in the NHL since then. His numbers include a mere three goals and 25 helpers over 150 games between the Stars, Flames and Senators. Lauded for his hockey smarts from the back line, there's still a possibility that the Finn finds work elsewhere ahead of Opening Night; the regular season doesn't start for another week, and roster configurations remain fluid for plenty of teams.

Capitals' Jyrki Jokipakka: Earns PTO with Washington
Jokipakka signed a professional tryout agreement with the Capitals on Tuesday.
The deal makes a lot of sense for both sides -- Jokipakka gets another shot at an NHL roster after it appeared he would have to play in Europe this season, and Washington gets another potential option for its blue-line corps that is a bit thin following the offseason departures of Kevin Shattenkirk and Karl Alzner. Jokipakka has yet to find consistent ice time or point production in any of his three NHL seasons to this point, so he isn't likely to be a usable fantasy option even if he does make the Caps' roster.

Jyrki Jokipakka: Won't be qualified by Sens
Jokipakka will not receive a qualifying offer from Ottawa, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports.
Jokipakka is expected to return to Europe to continue his professional career; he last played overseas during the 2012-13 campaign. The blueliner never seemed to gel with the Senators, as he appeared in a mere three contests after being acquired via trade at the deadline. Considering that he went unclaimed off waivers earlier this year, it seems unlikely there will be any NHL offers for the 25-year-old. If he can get his game back on track, there's a chance Jokipakka will make his way back to North America down the road, but it's not worth waiting for him even in deep dynasty formats.

Senators' Jyrki Jokipakka: Might see minutes down stretch
Jokipakka was scoreless with a minus-1 rating in 11:52 of ice time Thursday against the Wild in his team debut.
Jokipakka came over from the Flames in the Curtis Lazar deal at the trade deadline, but he has been in street clothes until Thursday. Injuries to Erik Karlsson (undisclosed) and Marc Methot (upper body) is testing the depth of the Senators, causing a need for Jokipakka to finally draw in. He might have a regular role with Methot not expected back until the postseason, but his fantasy value is negligible.

Flames' Jyrki Jokipakka: Clears waivers
After clearing waivers, Jokipakka is eligible to be assigned to AHL Stockton, Sportsnet 960's Pat Steinberg reports.
Jokipakka has recorded just six points in 38 games with Calgary and been a consistent healthy scratch of late. The 25-year-old blueliner is now a candidate to head back to the AHL in order to get some action on the ice.

Senators' Jyrki Jokipakka: Traded to Ottawa
The Flames sent Jokipakka and a second-round pick to the Senators in exchange for center Curtis Lazar and defenseman Mike Kostka on Wednesday, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Jokipakka was placed on waivers and ended up clearing as a precursor to this deal. The Finn joins an Ottawa team that features a nice blend of physical stay-at-home defensemen and playmaking types. The 25-year-old resembles the former, as he owns a mere 28 points in 147 career NHL contests split between the Stars and Flames.

Several teams are busy making roster moves with the NHL's trade deadline right around the corner, and now Jokipakka can be claimed under the 24-hour window. The Finn has been a healthy scratch the past eight games, which was the writing on the wall that the Flames don't have a need for his services.

The former Star recorded the same amount of points in half as many games (18) as a member of the Flames last year, so it's safe to say the team is likely dismayed by the downtick in production. Prior to suiting up Wednesday against Calgary, Jokipakka had actually served the previous three games as a healthy scratch, and has seen his ice time decline to 14:29 this year, which is significantly less than the 17:54 he averaged after coming over from Dallas last season.

Jokipakka hasn't recorded a point in 11 games and has just five in 27 contests this season.
The Finn's seeming lack of production is actually right in line with his first two NHL seasons, as he managed 10 points as a rookie then 12 points in 58 games last year. Jokipakka has averaged nearly 15 minutes of ice time in his first full campaign in Calgary, but doesn't do enough in any category (minus-3, eight PIM, 16 shots, 16 hits and 23 blocked shots) to warrant fantasy ownership in the vast majority of settings.

Jokipakka drew into the lineup for the 13th time this season in Monday's loss to the Sabres. He didn't record a point in 11:10 of ice time.
Jokipakka sat out the previous five games as a healthy scratch and was inserted into this one in favor of Brett Kulak. His four points in 13 games isn't the worst rate of production for a blueliner, but he only has six shots on goal, six hits and 12 blocked shots, so there's not much to see here for fantasy purposes.

Flames' Jyrki Jokipakka: Chips in helper Thursday
Jokipakka collected an assist in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Hurricanes.
Jokipakka now has a pair of points in four games after a 12-point showing in 58 contests last season. The former Star currently holds a role among the Flames' top-four defensemen on a pair with the offensive-minded Dougie Hamilton -- who also grabbed an assist with Jokipakka on Johnny Gaudreau's goal in this one -- so he could be in line for a slight uptick in production this year. However, Jokipakka's only spent a combined 2:08 with the power play through four games thus far, so those looking for a diamond in the rough on the blue line should probably focus their attention elsewhere until the 25-year-old gets more power-play time.

Jokipakka (hip) is listed on Finland's World Cup of Hockey roster, Sportsnet reports.
Jokipakka turned down an invitation to participate in the World Championship last May due to the hip injury, but he's evidently ready to represent his country this time around. Fantasy owners in most leagues can safely pass over Jokipakka, as he's primarily used in a shutdown role.

Jokipakka has declined an invite to the World Championships, citing a hip injury, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.
Jokipakka played through a few different injuries to finish off the season. The defenseman was logging heavy minutes -- nearly 20 a game -- to finish the season and has a year left on his deal after being traded to Calgary. He should continue to eat up minutes on the second or third defensive pairing in 2016-17 for the Flames.

Jokipakka was traded to the Flames on Monday as part of the deal for Kris Russell, The Dallas Morning News reports.
Also heading to Calgary are prospect Brett Pollock and a conditional second-round draft pick. The 24-year-old Finn collected just six points in 40 games while playing bottom-tier minutes for the Stars this year, and it's hard to imagine him enjoying much more of a role on the top-heavy Calgary blue line. A big body on the blue line, Jokipakka generally focuses on taking care of things in his own zone rather than generating offense.
