The 23-year-old winger has 10 goals and 20 points in 54 games at the AHL level this season. He is expected to head to AHL Toronto and likely won't see any NHL action barring a lengthy injury to a Maple Leafs forward.

After picking up Phil Di Giuseppe off waivers, the Predators sent Baptiste to the minors since his services as a spare forward were no longer needed. Baptiste played 33 games with the Sabres last season, picking up four goals and two assists. He had just been sent down to the AHL before being dealt. However, if the 23-year-old couldn't make Buffalo's lineup, he's got basically no chance to earn a spot with the Preds. It looks like the minors is going to be his home for most of the year.

Picked 69th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Baptiste was on the ice for a career-high 33 games last season. Still just 22 years old, he still has plenty of time to expand on his potential. In 47 career games, he's recorded seven goals and three assists.

Baptiste was reassigned to AHL Rochester in a paper move Monday, John Vogl of The Buffalo News reports.
This means that Baptiste was only assigned to the AHL as a formality, and he'll be staying with the Sabres. This move was made simply to make the 22-year-old eligible for the AHL postseason. Baptiste has played 14 games with Buffalo this year, but he's only averaged 8:45 of ice time per contest.

Baptiste was held without a point in four games with the Sabres after getting called up in early November. He averaged eight minutes per game and managed to register four shots on goal and two hits, and will return to his usual top-six role with the Amerks. Should there be another injury, Baptiste will be one of the first to get called up. Kyle Criscuolo, who was called up earlier on Thursday, will likely take Baptiste's spot in the lineup.

Sabres' Nicholas Baptiste: Slated to dress
Baptiste, who was called up on Nov. 1, is on track to play his first NHL game this season Tuesday against Washington, The Buffalo News reports.
Baptiste traveled with the team on their two-game road trip but did not play, but with Justin Bailey (lower body) and Jacob Josefson (foot) nursing injuries, Baptiste could draw into the lineup Tuesday, replacing Matt Moulson. Head coach Phil Housley wanted Baptiste to get in a few practices before he made his season debut, and will likely play him on the third line with Sam Reinhart and Seth Griffith. Griffith and Baptiste bring some speed and quickness to the lineup, but both are relatively inexperienced and may need to be sheltered against a tough Washington team. In 14 games with the Sabres last year, Baptiste scored three goals and four points.

Baptiste was recalled from AHL Rochester on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old center -- who was selected in the third round (69th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft -- heads back to the parent club having picked up three goals and two helpers over eight games for the AHL's Amerks. Even before his call-up, Buffalo already had enough players on the active roster to get by without Baptiste in Thursday's game against the Coyotes, but he still may tag into the lineup as a change-of-pace forward.

Baptiste was hoping to translate a 14-game run with the Sabres last season into a roster spot this season, but he faced a lot of competition in camp, especially after the Sabres claimed Jordan Nolan off waivers Wednesday. Baptiste will return to Rochester, where he's spent most of the past two seasons; he'll play an important top-six role with the Amerks and will surely see some NHL action this season if call-ups are needed. Baptiste is on the right track, but he didn't impress enough during the Prospects Challenge or the preseason.
