  • Avalanche's Josh Manson: Provides helper

Manson logged an assist, three shots on goal, four blocked shots, two hits and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Ducks. Manson has started December on a three-game point streak, logging a goal and two assists in that span. He was limited to one helper over his first 19 outings of the season. The 32-year-old defenseman has added 30 shots on net, 42 hits, 37 blocked shots, 32 PIM and a minus-1 rating this season. Manson has mainly played in a bottom-four role, though with Cale Makar (lower body) day-to-day and Bowen Byram (upper body) sustaining an injury Tuesday, Manson could get a longer look in the top four.

  • Avalanche's Josh Manson: Pots first goal of season

Manson scored a goal on two shots, blocked two shots and added two PIM in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Kings. Manson was bumped up to the top pairing at even strength with Cale Makar (undisclosed) out of action. The goal at 12:28 of the first period was Manson's first tally of the campaign, though it was also all the Avalanche could put past Cam Talbot. Manson has three points through 21 outings this season, though two of them have come over the last two games. He's added 27 shots on net, 40 hits, 33 blocked shots, 32 PIM and a minus-3 rating. While he may absorb most of Makar's minutes, Manson's playing style doesn't make for a particularly reliable fantasy profile.

Manson produced an assist, three shots on goal, six hits, two blocked shots and two PIM in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Ducks. Manson snapped a 15-game point drought with a helper on Bowen Byram's second goal of the game. With Samuel Girard (personal) on an indefinite leave from the team, Manson has stepped up in a top-four role, averaging 18:23 of ice time per game across his last four contests. He's produced a meager two assists this season, but the 32-year-old adds plenty of toughness with 40 hits, 31 blocked shots, 30 PIM and 25 shots on net through 20 appearances.

  • Avalanche's Josh Manson: Dealing with upper-body injury

Manson is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, coach Jared Bednar told Meghan Angley of DNVR Avalanche on Wednesday, so he won't be available Wednesday against Anaheim. Manson missed Monday's contest, but the reason for his absence wasn't initially clear. He has an assist, 20 hits and 18 blocks in 13 contests in 2023-24. • Avalanche's Josh Manson: Not in Monday's lineup

Manson did not practice Sunday, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports, and he was scratched from Monday's game against Seattle. The Avalanche called up a pair of defensemen from AHL Colorado -- Caleb Jones and Sam Malinski -- and each were active in Monday's win over the Kraken. Manson and Samuel Girard, who also missed Sunday's practice, sat out the game. The Avalanche have struggled of late -- after starting the season 5-0, the team has been shut out three times and had a horrible 8-2 loss at home to the Blues on Saturday -- but it seems odd that a pair of defensemen would take the fall for what has ailed the team, namely shaky goaltending and lack of depth offense. Head coach Jared Bednar may have hinted at a reason for Manson and Girard being scratched when he told Peter Baugh of The Athletic on Monday that the reason they didn't have a hard practice Sunday was the team was dinged up, which suggests the two defensemen are dealing with undisclosed injuries. A clearer picture should emerge Wednesday when Colorado hosts Anaheim.

The helper was Manson's first point through four games, though he's added seven shots on net, 12 blocked shots, five hits and a plus-1 rating. The 32-year-old remains on the third pairing, though he'd likely ascend to a top-four role if one of the Avalanche's defensemen sustains an injury.

  • Avalanche's Josh Manson: Facing extended absence

Coach Jared Bednar is hopeful Manson (lower body) will be able to return by the end of March, Ryan Boulding of NHL.com reports. With Manson facing an extended absence, look for Brad Hunt and Kurtis MacDermid to continue rotating in on the bottom pairing for the foreseeable future. Manson's picked up only 10 points through 27 games this season, so his absence will likely go unnoticed in most fantasy circles.
