Iiro Pakarinen: Moving overseas
Pakarinen has signed with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the KHL, Finnish news site Iltalehti reports.
Pakarinen, who recently completed his fourth season in the Oilers organization, will look to revitalize his career in what is widely considered to be the second-best league in the world. Once a 20-goal scorer in his native Finland and a reliable offensive player at the AHL level, Pakarinen logged just two goals and a single assist in 40 contests with Edmonton in 2017-18.

Pakarinen scored two goals and an assist in 40 games in 2017-18, while contributing 50 shots on goal and 72 hits as well.
Although Pakarinen bounced around from the AHL to NHL, he was only scratched for 17 games when he was with Edmonton, but did just average 10:11 of ice time skating mainly on the bottom six. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old has seen his role reduce since he logged 63 games at the professional level in 2015-16, but he was victimized by a low shooting percentage of four, which is unfortunate as his wrist shot is one of the strengths of his game. Pakarinen will be a free agent entering next season, and it's unclear if Edmonton has plans to retain him for the fifth straight year.

Oilers' Iiro Pakarinen: Lights the lamp
Pakarinen found the back of the net in Sunday's 6-5 overtime victory over Anaheim.
The offensive drive generated points for two of Edmonton's rare contributors -- Pakarinen scored his first goal since Feb. 5 and Milan Lucic assisted (his first point since Jan. 20). The Finnish winger has missed more games (healthy scratch) than he has played in the last two weeks and is best left on the wire for now.

There's an outside chance that Pakarinen could get scooped off waivers by another team. The 2016-17 campaign could have been a big step forward for Pakarinen in his third season in the league, but instead he was restricted to just 14 regular-season games and a single playoff game due to a leg injury he sustained in the preseason. In that limited amount of playing time, the 25-year-old notched two goals and two assists while averaging 8:55 in a bottom-six role. The Oilers apparently saw enough in him to give him another year with the team, so he'll look to prove them right, assuming he can stay healthy for at least most of the campaign.

Pakarinen (leg) posted an assist with a blocked shot and four hits in his season debut Tuesday against the Coyotes.
Pakarinen logged just 7:15 of ice time, as the Oilers eased him back into action. He hadn't played since the preseason after suffering a leg injury on Oct. 2. He'll need to work his way up the ranks, starting out on the checking line. Until he carves out a larger role in the offense he's only worth fantasy consideration in the deepest of fantasy formats.

It's been a long time coming for Pakarinen, who hasn't seen NHL game action since he was injured during the preseason way back on Oct. 2. The 25-year-old Finn is projected to skate on the fourth line and has only put up 16 points over his NHL career, so we would wait to see if he can cut out a bigger role for himself on a talented Edmonton squad before picking him up in the majority of fantasy formats.
