  • Lightning's Boo Nieves: Assigned to AHL

The Lightning assigned Nieves to AHL Syracuse on Friday. Nieves signed a one-year, two-way contract with Tampa Bay on Tuesday and was subsequently waived for the purpose of reassignment. The 26-year-old forward has accrued 76 games of NHL experience over the past four campaigns, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him join the Lightning's taxi squad at some point this season, but he'll head to the minors for now.

  • Lightning's Boo Nieves: Hits the waiver wire

The Lightning waived Nieves on Wednesday, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports. Nieves just signed a one-year, two-way deal with Tampa Bay on Tuesday, so he'll likely be assigned to the team's taxi squad assuming he clears waivers. The 26-year-old forward spent most of the 2019-20 campaign with AHL Hartford, picking up 27 points in 43 games.

  • Lightning's Boo Nieves: Earns contract with Tampa Bay

Nieves signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Lightning on Tuesday, Joe Smith of The Athletic reports. Nieves skated with the Lightning during training camp while on a PTO, and he's now an honest member of the franchise. The 26-year-old center spent last season in the Rangers' system, and he posted 27 points over 43 games with AHL Hartford. Nieves will add depth up the middle for Tampa Bay this year, but he may end up spending a bulk of his time in his hometown with AHL Syracuse.

  • Lightning's Boo Nieves: Secures PTO

Nieves agreed to a professional tryout with Tampa Bay on Friday, Bryan Burns of the Lightning's official site reports. Nieves was selected by the Rangers with the 59th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft but has struggled to maintain a regular spot in the NHL. Last year, the 26-year-old center managed just four appearances with New York in which he registered two shots, four PIM and three hits while averaging 7:32 of ice time. If the Bolts do part ways with Tyler Johnson, the extra cap space could open up a roster spot for Nieves, though the taxi squad may be in his future.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Sent down to AHL Hartford

Nieves was demoted to the minors Friday. Nieves logged a mere 5:19 of ice time versus Columbus on Thursday, so it shouldn't come as a shock to see him bound for the AHL. The center's demotion could be an indication that Greg McKegg (lower body) is nearing a return to the lineup. The 25-year-old Nieves should remain atop the list of potential call-ups for the remainder of the year.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Gets call

The Rangers called up Nieves from AHL Hartford on Sunday. It will be the first stint with the big club for Nieves this season, as he's racked up three goals and eight points in 16 AHL games this season. The first chance for Nieves to suit up is Monday against the Wild, and he could draw into the lineup, especially considering Greg McKegg (lower body) missed Saturday's game.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Placed on waivers

Nieves was designated for waivers by the Rangers on Monday. Nieves logged 43 games for New York last season in which he tallied four goals, six helpers and 34 shots. The center averaged a mere 9:39 of ice time in those outings. With Brett Howden and Lias Anderson pushing for more minutes, Nieves found himself expendable and will start the season in the minors, assuming he goes unclaimed.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Records 10 points in 2018-19

Nieves finished the season with four goals and 10 points in 43 games. The Syracuse native is a strong skater, but his usage is limited exclusively to a bottom-six role. In a perfect world for the Rangers, Nieves probably wouldn't make the big club out of camp next season, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the 25-year-old forward beat out some youngsters for a roster spot.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Finishing season slowly

Nieves mustered just one shot and one hit in Sunday's 3-0 win over Philadelphia. Nieves doesn't have much upside beyond a bottom-six role. He has just two goals and one assist since Jan. 15.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Inks one-year extension

Nieves signed a one-year, one-way contract with the Rangers on Monday, Frank Seravalli of TSN.ca reports, adding that the deal is valued at $700,000. Nieves is an efficient fourth-line grinder for the rebuilding Rangers. He's compiled only four goals and 13 assists over 58 NHL games to keep him off the fantasy hockey radar, but he helps out a bit in shorthanded situations and still has room to grow as New York's second-round (59th overall) pick from the 2012 draft.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Recalled by parent club

Nieves was promoted to the NHL on Sunday. As expected, the decision to demote Nieves was only to get him more ice time over the All-Star break. With the Rangers getting set to play the Flyers on Tuesday, expect him to draw back into New York's lineup. The 25-year-old has seven points in 16 appearances this season.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Drops down to minors

Nieves was reassigned to AHL Hartford on Saturday. After logging 15:02 of ice time in Saturday's clash with Boston, Nieves was shipped down to the minors. The move will allow Nieves to continue to get some ice time with the Wolf Pack while the Rangers are off until after the All-Star break. Depending on the health of Kevin Hayes (upper body), Nieves could jump back into the lineup Jan. 29 versus the Flyers.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Seals deal for Blueshirts

Nieves supplied the game-winning goal to the detriment of the Blues on Monday. The Rangers prevailed on the road, 2-1. Nieves converted a backhand shot with 16:49 remaining in the second period, and the score remained 2-1 in favor of the visitors the rest of the way. There wasn't anything particularly fancy about Nieves' tally, but Cody McLeod blocked goalie Jake Allen's line of sight to make it happen. This was the second goal in six games for the American skater, Boo, whose real first name happens to be Cristoval.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Summoned by parent club

The Rangers recalled Nieves from AHL Hartford on Saturday. Nieves has been decent in the minors this season, notching three goals and seven points in 12 appearances. The 2012 second-round pick's first opportunity to make his season debut with the big club will arrive Sunday against Vegas.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Sent down to minors

Nieves (concussion) was taken off non-roster, injured reserve and reassigned to AHL Hartford on Thursday. Nieves' injury during training camp may have cost him a chance at securing a spot on the 23-man roster for Opening Night -- an opportunity Brett Howden took full advantage of. Now that he is healthy, the 24-year-old Nieves will start his 2018-19 campaign in the minors, where he will have to earn his way onto the short list of potential call-ups.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Practices in full, but won't play Tuesday

Nieves (concussion) fully participated in Monday's practice but will not play Tuesday, Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post reports. First things first, Nieves will need to be moved off injured reserve before he can return to action. The center continues his comeback from a concussion, on Monday practicing in a full-contact jersey for a second consecutive time. It appears the bottom-six forward is nearing a return, but it won't come Tuesday against the Canadiens.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Takes to ice in normal gear

Nieves (concussion) was on the ice in a regular jersey Saturday morning, Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post reports. Nieves shedding his no-contact shirt is a great sign that he's on the verge of a return. The Rangers don't play again until Sunday's home clash with the Sabres, but depending on how he feels after this latest session, he may be fit for his season debut in the next contest. However, fantasy owners won't rush to the waiver wire for Nieves considering he lacks experience and is likely to reprise his role as a bottom-six grinder upon his return.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Practices in non-contact sweater

Nieves (concussion) took part in Monday's practice session sporting a non-contact jersey, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports. Nieves remains on non-roster injured reserve as he works his way back from the concussion he suffered during the preseason. Until he can take contact, the center won't be taking part in games and may still be sidelined for awhile. Even once cleared, the youngster could find himself headed back to AHL Hartford.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Headed for non-roster IR

Nieves (concussion) will begin the 2018-19 season on non-roster IR, Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post reports. Nieves appears to be suffering from the lingering effects of a concussion sustained in mid-September, keeping him on the sidelines as the Rangers prepare for Opening Night against the Predators on Thursday. He should rejoin the group when healthy, but he will not count against the roster to open the campaign.

  • Rangers' Boo Nieves: Sustains concussion

Nieves has been diagnosed with a concussion, Larry Brooks of The New York Post reports. Nieves probably has a decent shot at forcing his way into the 23-man roster; however, an extended absence by the center could set him back and ultimately land him back in the minors.
