Top Mason McTavish News

  • Ducks' Mason McTavish: Assigned to OHL club

McTavish was assigned to the OHL's Peterborough Petes on Saturday, Jeff Marek of Sportsnet reports.

McTavish played pretty well during his nine-game stay with the Ducks, picking up two goals and an assist, but the Ducks have evidently decided that logging big minutes in the OHL will be the best thing for the 18-year-old forward's development. As an added benefit, Anaheim will avoid burning a year of McTavish's entry-level deal by shipping him off before he's logged 10 NHL appearances. McTavish will likely dominate in the OHL, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him establish himself as a full-time player for Anaheim in 2021-22.

  • Ducks' Mason McTavish: Opens scoring in chaotic win

McTavish scored a goal on three shots, blocked two shots and went plus-2 in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Kraken.

McTavish had the only tally for either team in the first period, but the offense didn't stay quiet for long after that. The 18-year-old is up to two goals, one assist, seven shots on net and a plus-4 rating while mainly playing in a third-line role. While he's been effective so far, it's unclear if the Ducks will keep him on the roster after his ninth game -- they could slide his entry-level contract if they reassign him after that time.

  • Ducks' Mason McTavish: Suiting up Sunday

McTavish (lower body) was activated from injured reserve and will play Sunday against the Blues.

As expected, the 18-year-old forward will suit up for the first time since Oct. 18 after missing the last nine games. McTavish tallied two points while averaging 11:31 of ice time in three games prior to the injury. He'll enter the lineup in a middle-six role Sunday.

  • Ducks' Mason McTavish: Back with big club

McTavish (lower body) was recalled from AHL San Diego on Saturday.

McTavish has been with the Gulls on a conditioning assignment, so it's likely he's over the injury and will play Sunday against visiting St. Louis. Still, fantasy managers keen on rostering the 18-year-old should wait for news formally clearing him of his injury before inserting him into their lineups.

  • Ducks' Mason McTavish: Loaned for conditioning

McTavish (lower body) will join AHL San Diego for a conditioning assignment Thursday, John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports.

McTavish hasn't played since Oct. 18 while dealing with a lower-body injury that landed him on injured reserve. The 18-year-old forward will likely be back with the Ducks once his conditioning assignment is finished.

  • Ducks' Mason McTavish: Heading to IR

McTavish (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, CapFriendly.com reports.

McTavish was hurt early in Monday's game against the Flames, and he'll now be sidelined for at least a week. Max Jones (upper body) also went on IR, allowing the Ducks to recall both Sonny Milano and Sam Carrick. McTavish is first eligible to return next Tuesday versus the Jets.

McTavish left Monday's game against Calgary with a lower-body injury and will not return.

McTavish saw just 5:23 of ice time before exiting Monday's contest. An update on his status should be available after the game but it's likely that he'll be out against Edmonton on Tuesday.

  • Ducks' Mason McTavish: Dream debut versus Jets

McTavish scored a goal and added a power-play assist in his NHL debut, a 4-1 win over the Jets on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old was put in the lineup after Max Jones (illness) was a late scratch. McTavish delivered in his NHL debut, converting on an Isac Lundestrom assist at 13:20 of the first period for what would be the game-winning goal. In the second, McTavish added a helper on Adam Henrique power-play tally. It's unclear how long the 2021 third-overall pick will stick with the Ducks to begin 2021-22, but McTavish is probably due a longer look after a positive first impression.

  • Ducks' Mason McTavish: Makes Opening Night roster

McTavish won a job on the Ducks' Opening Night roster in training camp, Elliott Teaford of The Orange County Register reports.

McTavish was selected third overall by the Ducks in the 2021 draft. A natural center, McTavish practiced at left wing alongside Isac Lundestrom and Jakob Silfverberg ahead of Wednesday's season opener against the Jets. It's unclear if the 18-year-old McTavish will debut in that spot, but appears he could push for a middle-six role right from the start of the season.
