  • Blue Jackets' Cole Sillinger: Unlikely to play in World Juniors

Sillinger isn't expected to suit up for Team Canada at the World Junior Championships, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.

Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen had indicated earlier in the season Sillinger might be made available for Team Canada if he wasn't seeing a substantial role in the NHL, but that's exactly what the 18-year-old phenom has carved out for himself. "As much as I love the (world juniors) and think it would be a great experience for him, he's a big part of our team," Kekalainen said Sunday. Sillinger has four goals and nine points through his first 19 games for Columbus while averaging more than 14 minutes of ice time a night.

There will be ups and downs as there are for any teenager breaking into the NHL, but he's been most solid with nine points and 47 shots on net in 18 contests. He should continue to fill a middle-six role.
