Maltsev has 56 games of NHL experience, but at 25 years old and on a two-way deal with the Kings this year, it's fair to question if he'll ever stick at hockey's highest level. The forward is expected to finish the campaign in the KHL.

    The Avalanche recalled Maltsev from AHL Colorado on Monday. Maltsev is the latest member of the Eagles to join the NHL parent club. Anton Blidh, Jayson Megna and Martin Kaut have all made the trip between leagues. In a corresponding move, Megna was reassigned to the AHL. Maltsev is expected to center the fourth line Tuesday in New York against the Rangers.
