  • Penguins' Jan Rutta: Moving on to Pittsburgh

Rutta signed a three-year, $8.25 million contract with the Penguins on Wednesday. After going to the Stanley Cup Finals in three straight years with the Lightning, Rutta will get a change of scenery. The 31-year-old had 18 points in a career-high 76 contests last season, often drawing first-pairing assignments despite averaging 16:23 of ice time per game. The 31-year-old's role in Pittsburgh has yet to be determined, but he'll likely be a flexible, defense-first blueliner.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Puts away rare tally

Rutta scored a goal in Friday's 3-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5. Rutta is hardly known for his scoring, but he was able to get a long shot past Darcy Kuemper for the opening goal Friday. In 16 playoff appearances this year, Rutta has added four assists, 10 shots on net, 16 hits, eight blocked shots, 17 PIM and a plus-5 rating. The 31-year-old will likely continue to fill a mainly defensive role going forward, so a repeat of Friday's effort is unlikely.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Records two helpers in Game 4 win

Rutta picked up a pair of assists in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Rangers. Rutta assisted on goals from Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos as the Lightning tied the series 2-2. Rutta now has three assists in the postseason while playing alongside Victor Hedman on Tampa's top pairing. The 31-year-old defenseman finished the regular season with 18 points (three goals, 15 assists) and a plus-25 rating.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Suiting up Friday

Rutta (upper body) will be in Friday's lineup against the Islanders, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports. Despite an earlier report suggesting that Rutta wouldn't be available, he'll be one of seven Lightning defensemen to dress Friday. The 31-year-old will return after a two-game absence. He has 18 points through 75 games this season.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Not playing Friday

Rutta (upper body) will not play Friday against the Islanders. Rutta will miss his third straight game with the injury. It's unclear if he'll be ready to return when the playoffs commence next week, so interested fantasy parties should stay tuned for an update prior to Game 1.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Out Thursday

Rutta (undisclosed) will not be available Thursday against Columbus, Gabby Shirley of Bally Sports Florida reports. Rutta will miss his second straight game with an undisclosed issue. • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Won't play versus Jackets

Rutta (undisclosed) will be held out of Tuesday's tilt with Columbus, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports. Considering Rutta has managed just one point in his last eight games, along with seven shots and eight hits, few fantasy players figure to be impacted by his absence.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Exits Sunday's game

Rutta (undisclosed) left Sunday's game against the Panthers and did not return, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports. Rutta saw just 7:48 of ice time in Sunday's victory. The 31-year-old likely avoided major injury but his status will likely be up in the air until he undergoes more tests. Tampa Bay's next game is Tuesday against Columbus.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Ice time dropping

Rutta has three points in his last six games. He's also put up 11 hits and fired eight shots in that span, but his ice time has dropped game-by-game. Rutta skated 19:52 in the first game and it has dropped to 13:48 on Thursday. He has delivered 11 hits in those six games, so there's some minor value in his fantasy game.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Gets on scoresheet

Rutta tallied an assist in 13:58 of ice time in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Jets. Rutta has been on a bit of a hot streak by his standards over the past month, having racked up five helpers while posting a plus-4 rating through 10 contests. Still, don't expect the 31-year-old blueliner to crack the scoresheet on a regular basis down the stretch.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Assists in consecutive games

Rutta logged an assist and four blocked shots in Friday's 4-3 win over the Coyotes. Rutta had the secondary helper on Steven Stamkos' tally at 12:18 of the third period. Never one for much offense, Rutta has assists in each of the last two games -- this is the first time all season he's gotten on the scoresheet in consecutive contests. The Czech defenseman is at 11 points, 48 shots on net, 51 hits, 45 blocked shots, 30 PIM and a plus-10 rating in 44 outings overall.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Gets on scoresheet with helper

Rutta notched an assist, two hits and two PIM in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Avalanche. Rutta had been held without a point in his last five outings, and he also missed three games due to an undisclosed injury in that span. The 31-year-old is the more defensive half of a pairing with Victor Hedman. Rutta is at 10 points, 47 shots on net, 50 hits, 41 blocked shots, 30 PIM and a plus-10 rating in 43 contests this season. It's the first time he's reached double-digits in points since the 2017-18 campaign.

Rutta (undisclosed) participated in Tuesday's practice, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports. Rutta still remains questionable for Thursday due to his day-to-day status. Rutta will miss a second straight contest Friday and remains without a definite timetable for his return. • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Not expected to play Tuesday

Rutta (undisclosed) is not expected to be in the lineup Tuesday versus the Kings, Joe Smith of The Athletic reports. Due to injuries and salary cap concerns, the Lightning are only able to dress four defensemen for the contest. The nature of Rutta's injury is unknown at this time, though the team will likely call up defensemen from the taxi squad or AHL Syracuse if no one is able to return Friday versus the Ducks.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Better on ice than in fantasy arena

Rutta has one point in his last 14 games. The lack of offense isn't surprising -- Rutta isn't known for those skills. He does continue to provide modest totals in secondary categories (15 each, hits and blocks) in that same span. Rutta is best left on the wire in virtually all formats, as he's a better on-ice guy than a fantasy play.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Slides helper

Rutta produced an assist, two hits and a plus-3 rating in Friday's 3-0 win over the Kraken. Rutta set up Ross Colton for a second-period tally. The 31-year-old Rutta has put up modest offense with six points and 22 shots on net in 18 contests. He's added 18 blocked shots, 17 hits and 14 PIM while often pairing with Victor Hedman at even strength. Rutta's a more defensive player, but he can make for a solid budget option in DFS in the right matchups.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Two-point performance Saturday

Rutta scored a goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils. The veteran blueliner put together his first multi-point effort in the NHL in over three years, but it went to waste as the Bolts squandered a third-period lead. Rutta has two goals and five points through 15 games, putting him on pace for a career-best season -- not a high bar to clear considering his best season is a 20-point effort in 2017-18.

  • Lightning's Jan Rutta: Good to go

Rutta (undisclosed) is expected to be available for Thursday's game against Toronto, Joe Smith of The Athletic reports. Ruutta missed Monday's game against Washington with an undisclosed issue, but he should be good to go for Thursday's matchup with the Maple Leafs. He's picked up two helpers through eight games this season.
